Boo! with Jar of Haunts for PPA

Shawn de Oliveira is a super-talented member of my InKing Royalty team.  He’s also a fellow design team member at Pals Paper Arts and Global Design Project.  Shawn is hosting this week’s color challenge at the Pals Paper Arts.  While there are certainly some great directions to take this combination of Tangerine Tango, Emerald Envy and Tip Top Taupe, I caved to my desire to use this pumpkin from Jar of Haunts – a Halloween card ensued.  Here’s my card:

Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Tangerine Tango, Emerald Envy, Tip Top TaupeTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Bold Pumpkin.  How adorable is this pumpkin from Jar of Haunts?!  I stamped him with Archival Basic Black on Tangerine Tango and snipped him out.  I stamped the stem on the on Emerald Envy and on Tip Top Taupe – and snipped those pieces out.  I stamped the stem again on the Whisper White circle and glued down all the pieces to create the pumpkin.  Easy!  What a great way to combine these colors on one image, right?

  • Light Background.  OK, so I used all three of the colors on my bold pumpkin – yay for me!  I repeated the colors in the background with a light wash of color for each.  On a Basic Black piece of polka dots from the Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack, I used a Blender Pen to grab ink and lightly color the dots in a consistent pattern.  Here’s a closer look at how the pumpkin and the supporting paper work together.  You can also see how the tiny, scalloped border doesn’t fully blend in on the card (although the photo above doesn’t show that).Jar of Haunts, Suite Seasons, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Find the Pattern.  Because the polka dot paper has is designed with a repetitive pattern, you can have lots of fun with coloring the circles in any pattern you wish.  Here’s my suggestion – just find a pattern and stick with it.  You can see that my stripes of color fight with your eye’s desire to go in a straight line at a diagonal, right?  While that would have looked good, I wanted to mix it up.  Also, I left strips of white dots to include the three challenge colors plus white, incorporating all of the colors from the focal image on the backdrop.
