Happy Heart = Happy Christmas

This week’s Fab Friday Color Challenge – the 100th challenge!!! – was pulled right from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper, the most Fall-themed stack of papers in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Holiday Catalog.  While I used the paper, I also took a Christmas-themed spin on the colors.  Here’s my card:

Suite Sayings, Merry Tags Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri100, Christmas Card

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Delightful Dijon, Rich Razzleberry, Mint MacaronTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Sweet Sentiment.  Or, should I say A Suite Sentiment.  “A Happy Heart makes for a Happy Christmas” is from the popular, every-one-should-own stamp set Suite Seasons.  The bold, graphic print is perfect for this 3″ tall piece of Very Vanilla (I cut the paper before deciding what to stamp on it).  The design of the sentiment is cinched in the middle, giving the perfect indention for a circular object.  [Enter the Christmas ornament]

  • Building the Ornament.  This sweet Christmas tree ornament is a part of the Merry Tags Framelits Dies – many of the dies coordinate with the Merriest Wishes stamp set to make a 10%-off bundle.

To build this ornament, I did the following:

    • Cropped an ornament with Rich Razzleberry cardstock (the ornament that’s found in the top, left corner of the above picture) using cutting plates and my Magnetic Platform.
    • Cropped an ornament with Rich Razzleberry cardstock (the ornament that’s found in the bottom, right corner of the above picture) using a cutting plate and my Precision Base Plate.  I used my Die Brush to roll out all the pieces.
    • Glued the above cutouts together.
    • Cropped an ornament with Delightful Dijon cardstock (the ornament that’s found in the bottom, right corner of the above picture) using a cutting plate and my Precision Base Plate.  I picked out the star and tree base and glued them into the purple ornament.
    • Cropped an ornament with Mint Macaron cardstock (the ornament that’s found in the bottom, right corner of the above picture) using a cutting plate and my Precision Base Plate.  I picked out the three pieces that make up the boughs of the tree and glued them into the purple ornament.Suite Sayings, Merry Tags Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri100, Christmas Card
  • Measurements.  Every once in a while, I cave in and give you the measurements I use on a card.  In general, I think you should play around with paper to find the shapes and sizes that work best for you, but this is a really easy layout that can be used in so many ways.  Here are the measurements, starting with the base and working my way up:
    • Mint Macaron – 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
    • Rich Razzleberry – 4″ x 5-1/4″
    • Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper – 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″
    • Rich Razzleberry – 3-7/8″ x 3-1/8″
    • Very Vanilla – 3″ x 3-1/8″
