This week’s Fab Friday Color Challenge – the 100th challenge!!! – was pulled right from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper, the most Fall-themed stack of papers in Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Holiday Catalog. While I used the paper, I also took a Christmas-themed spin on the colors. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- A Sweet Sentiment. Or, should I say A Suite Sentiment. “A Happy Heart makes for a Happy Christmas” is from the popular, every-one-should-own stamp set Suite Seasons. The bold, graphic print is perfect for this 3″ tall piece of Very Vanilla (I cut the paper before deciding what to stamp on it). The design of the sentiment is cinched in the middle, giving the perfect indention for a circular object. [Enter the Christmas ornament]
- Building the Ornament. This sweet Christmas tree ornament is a part of the Merry Tags Framelits Dies – many of the dies coordinate with the Merriest Wishes stamp set to make a 10%-off bundle.
To build this ornament, I did the following:
- Cropped an ornament with Rich Razzleberry cardstock (the ornament that’s found in the top, left corner of the above picture) using cutting plates and my Magnetic Platform.
- Cropped an ornament with Rich Razzleberry cardstock (the ornament that’s found in the bottom, right corner of the above picture) using a cutting plate and my Precision Base Plate. I used my Die Brush to roll out all the pieces.
- Glued the above cutouts together.
- Cropped an ornament with Delightful Dijon cardstock (the ornament that’s found in the bottom, right corner of the above picture) using a cutting plate and my Precision Base Plate. I picked out the star and tree base and glued them into the purple ornament.
- Cropped an ornament with Mint Macaron cardstock (the ornament that’s found in the bottom, right corner of the above picture) using a cutting plate and my Precision Base Plate. I picked out the three pieces that make up the boughs of the tree and glued them into the purple ornament.
- Measurements. Every once in a while, I cave in and give you the measurements I use on a card. In general, I think you should play around with paper to find the shapes and sizes that work best for you, but this is a really easy layout that can be used in so many ways. Here are the measurements, starting with the base and working my way up:
- Mint Macaron – 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″
- Rich Razzleberry – 4″ x 5-1/4″
- Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper – 3-7/8″ x 5-1/8″
- Rich Razzleberry – 3-7/8″ x 3-1/8″
- Very Vanilla – 3″ x 3-1/8″
Stamp Sets: Suite Seasons Papers: Petals & Paisleys Specialty Designer Series Paper, Mint Macaron, Rich Razzleberry, Very Vanilla, Delightful Dijon Inks: Archival Basic Black Accessories: Merry Tags Framelits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Fabulous! You used the color combination brilliantly!
Diggin’ the fresh and modern mix of color for the holidays. The little tree rocks with layers of color behind!
Always love my first morning “peek” at your card if the day, Brian!
You are so brilliant, Brian! Love the colours behind the little tree…smart card!
Great card Brian! I love the way the two elements nestle together so perfectly:-). Thank you for the inspiration!
Love this color combo!
This is a perfect Brian card! Love it
Aww, this is so perfect for Christmas! I love the simplicity. This would be such a great design if you had to make, say, 50 cards for all your relatives! Thanks for the inspiration!
(Suite/Sweet, haha)
I think the creme de la creme of this card is the way you tilted the ornament. Don’t get me wrong, the entire card is gorgeous and I love the phrase but just turning that ornament really brought attention to the entire card. I absolutely, positively love this one Brian. Thanks for sharing.
Adorable card Brian. I love the ornament.
WOW! Had to read the “building of the Ornament” a couple of times! I get it now! Your efforts paid off…Beautifully done!
Ooooh my friend I love it , love the colors and your tag ❤️
Hugs Frenchie
Brilliant layout for this sentiment stamp!
I’m shaking my head at your skills, wow! Love it!
I just got Suite Seasons on Friday, and I bought it because of what I’d seen you make with it (and similar sets) and because it was on sale 🙂 Thanks for enabling me to buy yet another stamp set!
