Presents & Pinecones

Yesterday I shared a purple, green and yellow Christmas card that features the Merry Tags Framelits Dies – did you see it?  If you missed it, you can see it here.  Today, I’m sharing one of the great sentiments from the stamp set that coordinates with the dies (and offered as a bundle with a 10% savings).  I’ve paired the sentiment with pages from Presents & Pinecones Designer Series Paper.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Merry Bells with Presents & Pinecones.  I adore the page of Christmas bells that’s featured in the Presents & Pinecones Designer Series Paper.  The bells, though, can be tricky – there are so many boughs and bells with so many colors that the page can be very busy if presented as a large panel.  To reduce some of the busy, the printed page can be presented as a strip or a small panel.  I increased the monochromatic stars paper and covered part of the bells square to reduce the amount of busy.  Still, it’s a great page – and I love the incorporation of Delightful Dijon into Christmas pages.Presents & Pinecones Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!
  • Thick Whisper White.  I don’t often use Thick Whisper White cardstock for the base of my cards.  I find the regular cardstock to be too thin but love the sturdiness of the thick paper.  After staying away from white bases for so long, I guess I still haven’t transitioned to using the thick paper as a base (I use it all the time for popped-up focal images on cards).  Another reason I don’t often use it?  It doesn’t photograph well against my light-gray backdrop.  🙂

  • Color Combination.  The colors in this card were pulled right from the Presents & Pinecones Designer Series Paper.  While there are pops of Emerald Envy and Mint Macaron on this card, the three primary players in this card are Cherry Cobbler, Delightful Dijon and Whisper White.  If you like this combination, please save this:Stampin' Up! 5. I really like your card, Brian. I have not been a fan of this pack of DSP. The colors are outside my comfort zone, but your pretty cards using the papers are slowly changing my mind. I’ll have to CASE this one. That’s one of the things I love about your creativity is that you show us papers and color combos I would never have thought of. In other words, old dogs can learn new tricks!! lol. Thanks so much for sharing your great talent with us.

  6. This is one of the best Christmas cards I’ve seen so far this year Brian. I would never, ever have used this color combination but, as always, you have encouraged me to go outside my comfort zone. I have to agree with HJ, old dogs CAN learn new tricks. LOL Thanks for all you do.

    • Emily – Thanks! I don’t have this card (it was sent out at Christmas), but I’m glad you like it. It’s a standard 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card front, and I believe the center is 3″ x 3″. I hope that helps.
