SNEAK PEEK: Swan Lake for GDP

I’m always excited to play along with the Case the Designer challenges at Global Design Project.  What a great way to honor the design team members I work with!  The inspiration in this group is endless.  For this week’s GDP challenge, I get to CASE a gorgeous card by Connie Collins.  I got a big hug from her at OnStage earlier this month but don’t have many other chances to see her (even though she’s just one state away from me).  I used a new stamp set that I won at the OnStage event – Swan Lake.  This set will be available in Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Occasions Catalog.  Here’s my card:

Swan Lake, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP064And here’s the banner for our CASE the Designer challenge that inspired my card:gdp064When you CASE (Copy and Share Everything OR Copy and Selectively Edit) a card, you aren’t recreating a card in its entirety – you are taking one or more elements (colors, layout, stamp set, embellishments, technique) and creating your own card with that inspiration.  I was mostly inspired by the gorgeous colors in Connie’s card.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Swan Lake.  While this sweet, new stamp set is filled with flowers that could have mimicked Connie’s card, I chose to create a little scene in the water.  These babies are actually swans (and baby swans are white or soft gray), but I’m a risk taker (oh, so risky) and made the baby swans into baby ducks.  So cute!  I stamped these babies with Basic Gray Archival ink and the colored them with a Blender Pen.  Here’s a peak at this wonderful, new set that will be available to customers on January 4:Swan Lake, Stampin' Up!
  • The Sentiment.  “Wherever you go today…may happiness follow.”  Such a sweet sentiment you could send to almost anyone – except your sworn enemy.  Wouldn’t really make much sense to send that to your sworn enemy.  Anyway…I really, really didn’t want to detract from the sweet scene I created with the ducks (we’re calling them ducks) and cattails, so I stamped the sentiment on the So Saffron panel behind them, lining them up with the outside of the Basic Gray panel.  While I positioned the words there for need, I really love the ending effect.
  • Soft Color Combination.  Like Connie’s card, I chose to feature yellow, blue and green in my project.  Due to the softness of the images, I decided to use Marina Mist, So Saffron and Pear Pizzazz for my shades of color and accented those with Basic Gray.  If you like these colors, too, feel free to save this:Stampin' Up! 1. I love this card – the colors, the placement of the stamped objects on the white, and the use of a two-part sentiment. Really nice. I had not noticed the ducks before – they will work for a baby card also. Thanks for posting this nice card.
