Suite Sayings for FMS265

In yesterday’s “sweet and simple” card, I shared my love for Suite Seasons (from the Holiday Catalog) and Suite Sayings (from the Annual Catalog).  I can’t get enough of some great sentiment stamps sets, and these two are must-haves.  If you missed that Suite Seasons card, you can see it here.  This week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge gave me the opportunity to pull out the Suite Sayings and take a small break from Holiday cards to make a sweet Thank You card.  Here’s my card:

Amazing You, Suite Sayings, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS265

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

FMS265Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Suite Sayings.  With the right paper and colors and layout, you can always build a card around a great sentiment.  The sentiments in Suite Sayings are fun, fresh and versatile.  First introduced in the 2016 Occasions Catalog, this set has a perfect, fun sentiment for almost every holiday or special occasion.  Most cards I’ve made with this set have kept the focus on the sentiment – the fonts are beautiful enough to carry the card.  Promise.  The “thanks for being you” has been a go-to stamp for me.  I’ve used all of these – except “success looks good on you” – so there’s my next personal challenge.  🙂

  • A Playful Palette.  There are some really great colors in the Playful Palette Designer Series Paper Stack – Basic Black, Blushing Bride, Emerald Envy, Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum.  They are all showcased with Very Vanilla.  Together, all of these colors can be a bit overwhelming – my favorites are the pages that are pages that feature one of the colors with Very Vanilla (as those pages are easiest to work with).  I love this striped page although there’s one too many colors.  I really wanted to accent the Emerald Envy in this card – it’s been such a “Christmas color” over the last several months, so it was nice to see it in a different light.

  • Extended Flower.  My original design did not include this flower from Remarkable You.  I had a big, Very Vanilla circle, and that made me happy.  Still, my happiness was taunted by the need to add something else.  I immediately knew this flower would be a perfect accent.  I stamped the flower on Very Vanilla with Archival Basic Black and then stamped over the petals with the watercolor wash stamp from Perpetual Birthday Calendar.  Here’s a closer look so you can see the texture in this color:Amazing You, Suite Sayings, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FMS265I colored the stem with a Blender Pen and Emerald Envy ink.  The banner was already glued down, and the stem of the flower wasn’t nearly long enough.  Enter: creative solutioning.  I cropped the stem of this flower at the green banner, stamped the stem again and added it below the banner.  Looks like one, long stem, right?

  8. Oh you creative little genius you! Two things really strike me about this card. First that you came up with a way to extend the stem on this flower so perfectly and the second is your use of black to outline your layers. Then you top it off with having the flower extend over the circle. WOW! If anyone can take a simple sketch and bring it to a whole new level it is you, our illustrious leader and King of the CAS world. Can you tell I love this one?

  11. Another lovely card. I like the way you’ve used a flower but still managed to not make a ‘girly’ card. That stripy paper and the deep colours really give this card strength to back up the sentiment.
