SNEAK PEEK: So Detailed Thinlits

Amy O’Neill is hosting this week’s challenge at Freshly Made Sketches – and what a fun sketch it is!  I was excited to run some new dies from Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Occasions Catalog through my Big Shot and made some [artistic license] adjustments to Amy’s sketch so that my elements would fit the challenge.  Still, the layout is 100% inspired by her sketch – AND you get to see some of the new products in action.  Yippee!  Here’s my card:

FMS266As you can see, I altered the sketch by changing it from portrait to landscape.  The sentiment and dragonfly are the two elements in the top, left corner of the base structure (the flowers).

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • So In Love.  The floral die that serves as the base for this card’s sentiment and dragonfly comes from the So Detailed Thinlits Dies, part of the Falling in Love suite and bundled with the So in Love stamp set.  Here’s a peek at that bundle:  These dies are designed to make elegant wraparounds for a card or invitation.

I cropped the entire set of flowers in the die and snipped around the right side to reduce the width of the floral bouquet.  I simply snipped away at the edges of new flowers to get a clean edge.  What fun!

  • Dragonfly Dreams.  The Dragonfly Dreams bundle is destined to be one of the most popular items in Stampin’ Up!’s upcoming catalog.  The detailed dies are gorgeous, and the sentiments and other stamp images are beautiful.  So many great opportunities for gorgeous projects.  The large dragonflies were a bit overwhelming for this card (I only needed a small one), so I cropped a string of small dragonflies (love this die!) and snipped away all but the top one – similar to the approach I took for snipping away at the flowers die.  Here’s a look at this new bundle:

  • Lovely Color Combination.  As I was finishing my project, it occurred to me how similar this color combination is to one I used last week for a Valentine’s Day card (you can see that project here).  In that project, I featured a different pink-and-purple card, using Cherry Cobbler and Wisteria Wonder with Whisper White.  This project uses softer and dustier colors to make a card that has a much softer appeal.  If you like this combination of colors, too, please save this:Stampin' Up!
