Cool Treats for a Special Fusion Challenge

What a special day!  The super-talented design team members at Fusion Card Challenge have each invited a friend to join them for the kickoff of their 2017 challenges.  What an honor that my dear friend, Linda Callahan, asked me to be her guest for the challenge!  I pulled some photos of Linda “from the archives” to show you how much we love each other.  Here’s Linda at our 3rd Annual World Card Making Day event:

And here’s Linda (always a good sport), catching sponges in a trash bin, at our 4th Annual event:

Linda CallahanFusion Challenges offer three choices with their challenges – (1) create a project inspired by the sketch, (2) create a project inspired by the photo or (3) create a project inspired by both.  What fun!  I created a project that combined the two for this challenge.  Here’s my card for this super-fun challenge:

Cool Treats, Frozen Treats Framelits Dies, Tasty Treats Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Fusion ChallengeAnd here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

Fusion ChallengeAs I mentioned above, I combined both challenges with my card.  The sketch is pretty easy to see in my card, but how did I feel inspired by hot tea on a cold day?  Well, I went with a cold treat for a hot day.  There’s also a lot of snow in the picture, which is (essentially) a less-delicious ice cream, right?

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Cool Treats Bundle.  I adore the Cool Treats Bundle, new in Stampin’ Up!’s Occasions Catalog that launched yesterday.  The stamps and Framelits dies can be combined to make LOTS of delicious treats – ice cream cones (scoop or soft-serve with a variety of cones), popsicles (single or double), or a bowl of sweet treats.

I mostly used the Frozen Treats Framelits Dies to create my triple-stack of fudge-filled, sprinkle-sprinkled bowl of ice cream.  The sweet strawberry was cropped from the Framelits set, as well – once in Real Red and once in Pear Pizzazz.Cool Treats, Frozen Treats Framelits Dies, Tasty Treats Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Fusion Challenge

  • Showcasing the sentiment.  While the sketch called for the sentiment to be along the side of the image, the sentiment I selected was really long, so I had to overlap it with my image.  Even with the scoops of colorful ice cream and the bold panels of cardstock in the background, the sentiment is the star of this show.  I glued it to the ice cream bowl (allowing it to hang over just a bit) and then carefully snipped along the edge of the bowl so that the banner perfectly hugs my bowl of sweet treats. • Two Sweet Color Combinations.  Chocolate Chip plays an important role in this card – a color I don’t use very often (but am glad that it’s there when I need it).  Still, it’s the softer colors that really stand out on this card.  I used three pages from the Sweet Treats Specialty Designer Series Paper to create the blocked background for this card – featuring Pear Pizzazz, Pool Party and Crumb Cake.  If you like these colors, save this for future inspiration:  Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Pear Pizzazz, Pool Party, Crumb CakeI used three sweet and soft colors for my ice cream scoops.  While these colors might not exist in ice cream flavors, they sure are super-sweet:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Peekaboo Peach, Pool Party, So Saffron

  9. Super fun card Brian. I haven’t purchased this set yet, but it’s on my “must have” list. You make it look so easy. And I do believe there are ice cream flavors with those colors, or close to it. Peach, Mint and Lemon. Look in your grocer’s freezer. I’m a NUT for ice cream and although the peach may not be a solid color, there’s peaches in it. Nice job! 🙂

  10. Awesome card, fabulous pictures, looks like you guys had a blast.

  16. An absolutely scrumptious card, Brian! Your triple-stack of fudge-filled, sprinkle-sprinkled sundae has my sweet tooth tingling; the patterned background papers and sentiment strip, striking!
