Carried Away to a Wonderful Adventure

After a short break, it’s time for another FabFriday Challenge.  What fun!  Mindy Backes created a fun sketch for us this week, and I followed it down to a T – well, kinda.  I may have switched things up a little (I straightened up all the layers behind my focal square), but the inspiration is there.  I used Carried Away, the super-fun, colorful paper from Sale-a-Bration and showcased a fun sentiment from Places You’ll Go, a stamp set from the Annual Catalog.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Carried Away Designer Series Paper.  Carried Away Designer Series Paper is just one of the amazing, exclusive items you can earn during Sale-a-Bration with a $50 purchase.  Just look at the brilliant, bold colors and the vibrant designs.  With all the bright colors (Watermelon Wonder and Peekaboo Peach), the bold panels of Night of Navy play a huge role in these papers.  That’s why I used the large panel of Night of Navy on my card – to offer a deep, dark background for these colors to pop.

  • Extending the Sentiment.  I adore this fun sentiment from Places You’ll Go and positioned it along the edge of a cropped Project Life Cards & Labels die – also one of my favorites.  Once I positioned the square (built with Watermelon Wonder, Night of Navy and Peekaboo Peach) on the Night of Navy base, I realized I needed something more to fill the void of the dark navy along the right side of the card.  I tried to switch out the blue for other colors and patterns but kept coming back to the blue.  In the end, I decided to add three White Perfect Accents along the right side of the card and positioned them along the right side of the sentiment, extending the eye right across the card after reading the sentiment.
  • Colors.  I’ve been using Watermelon Wonder a lot lately.  What’s up with that?!  I don’t like watermelon, so I’ve tended to stay away.  🙂  I like how it plays with Night of Navy and Peekaboo Peach, though, so I couldn’t stay away.  If you like this combination of colors, too, please save this:Stampin' Up! 7. Hi Brian:

I too would have had to straighten the layers. That wonky look is not my style but I have friends that love that look. All and all just a fun card and your white circle dots are the absolute perfect finish. Again, as always, a great card from a great designer.

  8. What a great way to show off this DSP! I love all the layers. These colors are so fun together! It makes a great masculine card, even though it uses pink as one of the main colors. So cool!

But… how can you not like watermelon? It’s the most delicious fruit, except for peaches.

  9. Beautiful mix of bright colors! And I totally get straightening up the layers!

  10. Super cute!

  11. Love what you did with this sketch. I really like the white accents in a row that line up with your sentiment. Such a cool visual effect.

  12. Brian – catching up on some old emails…. I missed this card initially. Love it! What are the dimensions on the DSP & the mats, please? I have a bunch of different big scraps I’d like to use to make some cards like this.
