I mostly make cards and don’t often use Stampin’ Up! products to make 3-D projects or home decor, but I always have a lot of fun when I do. For this week’s Global Design Project, I used the “winged things” theme to fill a frame with an inspirational saying, a gorgeous backdrop of paper and a bold, beautiful dragonfly. Here’s my project:
This picture frame is one I picked up at Target some years ago. The base of the project is sandwiched between two pieces of glass that slide right into the frame. I rolled the wings of the dragonfly with the rounded handle of a large paint brush and added the dragonfly to the outside of the frame with a glue dot.
Here’s a closer look at how the dragonfly pops off the glass of the frame:
- Dragonfly Dreams Bundle. Dragonflies were always a part of our South Carolina summers. They don’t bite, and they aren’t a nuisance, so I’ve always liked the fluttering insects. I also adore the Dragonfly Dreams bundle. While I only used the large dragonfly die from the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits, there are so many great images and sentiments in the stamp set and so many other dies in the Thinlits set. If you can believe it, this is only the second project I’ve made with this great bundle – you can see the first one here.
- Three New Sale-a-Bration Selections. Starting tomorrow (February 21), Stampin’ Up! is releasing three new Sale-a-Bration items that you are sure to want. If you want to see all three new items, check back tomorrow OR click here. I’ve featured the 6″ x 6″ Glimmer Paper Selection Pack on this project (the pack includes pages of Bermuda Bay, Mint Macaron and Sweet Sugarplum pages) – the large dragonfly was cut perfectly from the Mint Macaron Glimmer Paper. QUICK TIP: When cutting a piece of Glimmer Paper with a Thinlits die, it’s easiest to place the cutting side of the die on the flat paper side of the glimmer paper. Since the dragonfly can be cut backwards, I was able to get a good, clean cut on the backside of the paper.
- Colors. Mint Macaron pairs with almost anything – as does Basic Gray. While making this project, I thought it would be fun to pair the two of them together. What a great combination! Mint Macaron is a soft shade, but it’s also a bit dusty (that’s why it’s perfect for the succulents). Basic Gray pulls out the dustiness of the beautiful shade. Whisper White lightens it all up perfectly. If you like this combination, too, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Layering Love Papers: Succulent Garden Designer Series Paper, 6″ x 6″ Glimmer Paper Assortment, Basic Gray, Whisper White Inks: Archival Basic Gray Accessories: Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies, Precision Base Plate, Stampin’ Dimensionals
