Stampin’ Up!’s Dragonfly Dreams for GDP077

This week’s Global Design Project Color Challenge offers us three colors, and we get to add an extra one.  What fun!  The “assigned colors” are Peekaboo Peach, Bermuda Bay and Early Espresso.  To this variety of colors (all are found in the Cupcakes & Carousels Suite of products), I added Delightful Dijon.  Why did I choose Delightful Dijon?  The soft orange, vibrant blue and regal brown needed a yellow or green, so I went with the richest of the yellows.  Here’s my card that showcases these colors and the Dragonfly Dreams bundle:

  • #foolproofwatercolor.  I used Kim Jolley’s #foolproofwatercolor technique for the background of this card.  Kim is a dear friend and an amazing talent, and I’m excited to share her technique with you.  Here’s the sweet-and-simple version – ball up a baby wipe, dab it in ink and press it onto paper.  Then accent with a little texture.  I lightly inked a thick band of Peekaboo Peach, Bermuda Bay and Delightful Dijon and accented it with some images from Timeless Textures.  So easy!  Kim is a pro at this – if you want to read more about her technique, including several samples and a video – you can click here.
  • A Touch of Stella.  My dragonfly was cropped with the Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies and Early Espresso cardstock.  That looked so plain, but I knew that glimmer paper would be too flashy for this card.  To add the right amount of shine, I painted the cropped dragonfly with the Clear Wink of Stella brush and let it dry.  I glued down the body of the dragonfly and let the wings be free to pop off the paper a little.Use Wink of Stella Glitter Brush to add the right touch of glitter, Stampin 'Up!, Brian King
  • A Blessing in Disguise.  I have two full sets of Stampin’ Write Markers – one set is five years old, and the other is new.  As a marker from the first set “dies,” I replace that marker with the same color from the new set (I know some people go to lengths to add ink to their markers, but that’s too much work for me).  When I reached from my Early Espresso marker, it was almost fully dry. I used the dry marker!  That gave me just the right amount of ink to cover the images from Timeless Textures – I didn’t have to stamp it off or worry that it might be too dark.  What a fun find!

Stamp Sets:  Dragonfly Dreams, Timeless Textures  Papers:  Early Espresso, Delightful Dijon, Very Vanilla  Inks:  Peekaboo Peach, Bermuda Bay, Delightful Dijon, Early Espresso  Accessories:  Detailed Dragonfly Thinlits Dies, Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site tosee the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!
