Tasty Trucks & Tasty Treats for the Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop

It’s time for another Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop – if you aren’t starting the hop here, then you probably just arrived from Australia where you visited with my amazingly talented friend, Louise Sharp at louisesharp.com. How awesome is she?!  That project blows me away.  The Be Inspired Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from all over the world who are excited to share our projects with you.  I’m honored to be a part of this group of talented stampers.

Cool Treats Suite, Stampin' Up!So here’s the thing – today’s Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop features Tasty Treats and projects from Stampin’ Up!’s Cool Treats Suite of Products.  To see all of these items in my online store, click here.  While I love this set and would have TOTALLY featured a project with it, I thought the hop featured Tasty Trucks, a fun Sale-a-Bration set, and didn’t realize I’d used the wrong set until it was too late.  It wasn’t too late, though, for a quick change-out of the sentiment to meet the hop requirements.  🙂  For my blog hop project, I chose to showcase the three stamp sets – the Tasty Trucks photopolymer stamp set from Sale-a-Bration, the Cool Treats stamp set from the Occasions Catalog and the Grateful Bunch photopolymer stamp set from the Annual Catalog. Here’s my card:

Tasty Trucks, Cool Treats, Grateful Bunch, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Fun Pattern.  Isn’t this 1980’s-retro background super-fun?  The shapes and colors play to the retro feel, don’t you think?  Although I’ve told you what stamp sets I’ve used to create this card, do you see where I used Tasty Trucks?  I’ll give you a hint – the lopsided triangles and rectangles are the windows on the Tasty Trucks.  To create the pattern, I simply stamped the truck over and over, colored the borders of the windows and snipped them out.  That may sound amazingly tedious, but it was actually very fun.  Plus – the shapes aren’t very hard to snip with their flat sides.Tasty Trucks, Cool Treats, Grateful Bunch, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Build-a-Sentiment.  Before I realized this was a Cool Treats hop, my sentiment was simply “You’re totally amazing” from the Grateful Bunch stamp set.  I love this sentiment and have used it often – and the “totally” was a perfect standout on this card with a 1980’s feel.  When I realized my mistake, I snipped off the oval and replaced it with a new sentiment that combined “You’re totally” with “COOL” from the Cool Treats stamp set.  Quick change for an equally effective (if not more fun) sentiment. • Four Colors.  When trying to balance a background between colors, I find that “four” seems to work well.  For every intersection of three colors, I was able to add the fourth for a perfect balance on this card.  I used a blue, a green, a red and a yellow – Tempting Turquoise, Cucumber Crush, Flirty Flamingo and Crushed Curry.  Not only did this selection of colors allow me to balance the colors on the card, but I also achieved a balance of color families – soft, bright and regal are all represented in these shades.

I’m so glad you stopped by and hope you like my fun card. I also hope you’ll continue the Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop to see more projects that I’m sure you’ll love. The next stop is my super-fun Canadian friend, Allison Okamitsu at Nice People Stamp. Click on the banner below to continue through the hop:

  16. Amazing card! Very creative how you “saw” the shapes of the windows and made them into a background for your card! Your card says “You are totally cool”, well I think YOU are the totally cool one with this card design!!!!

  17. Florence Pangelinan

You’re having too much fun–Imagine fussy-cutting and then gluing them all to the card! Results: fun and cutesy.

  18. Is there no end to your cleverness…LOL. I must not be looking at my stamps long enough, or that’s from the other side of my brain. ?

  19. You blow me away with your cool ideas. This one takes the cake. I would love to recreate it, but I don’t know if I’d have the patience to cut all the little pieces. Now, if I could bet the grandkids a little better at cutting, I could have them do it, but for now they just like to sit and snip pieces of paper all over the floor in my craft room. It keeps them busy, and they are learning good scissor skills. Then they take their glue sticks and glue all the little scraps to paper and “make cards”. My little future crafters.

  20. Really Cool!! I just got it today!!

  21. How clever is our Brian? This card demonstrates just how clever and creative you are. Super cool project.

  22. See I would have never thought to do that with the windows! but what a fab idea 🙂 love it! xoxo

  23. You never stop amazing me with your creativity! Awesome!
