You Make My Heart Smile for GDP081

Each week I’m inspired by the amazing projects shared by the Design Team Members at the Global Design Project.  As soon as my amazement begins to wear off a bit, the participants begin sharing their cards – and I’m in awe all over again.  So many great projects from so many talented artists.  I can’t wait to see the gallery for this week’s Global Design Project color challenge – Night of Navy, Whisper White and your choice of one other color.  I chose Calypso Coral.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Enhancing Floral Boutique.  I love to tell you things you already know.  If you’ve followed me for longer than a week, then you know that I love to create with Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Papers.  I also love the enhance the pages – stamping on the pages, piecing them together, pairing unexpected pages.  For this challenge, I used a stencil brush to lightly paint the Night of Navy and Whisper White with Calypso Coral ink.  I inked from the bottom and up each time so that the base of the panel was darkest.  I adore this paper – the patterns are beautiful, and it’s easy to add other colors.

  • Make a Decision, Brian.  When I first set out to make this card, I wanted to match up the patterns perfectly between the panel that’s painted with Calypso Coral.  I was all set to make it work – had the pieces all cut and ready-to-go – but I chickened out.  The layers have to be PERFECT for that effect to work, and I got a little gun-shy.  As such, I made the decision to add a thin frame of Night of Navy just let the patterns not match.  I cropped another piece for the background and let it be.  I was happy with that decision – helped me to relax a bit while I made the rest of the card.  🙂
  • Bold and Beautiful.  I love how bright Calypso Coral looks with Night of Navy.  The bold blue makes the rich coral pop.  I really like how these two colors play with one another.  If you like this combination of colors, too, please save this:Stampin' Up!
