Coffee Cafe for CTS225

If you read through my choices for My Favorite Things from Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Annual Catalog (you can see those posts here and here), then you already know that Coffee Cafe is one of my choices for “Fan Favorite” – I love this suite (papers, stamps, dies, accessories) and know they are going to be HUGE with other demonstrators and our customers.  I was excited to sit down and create with this suite, and this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch was perfect for my project.  Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for Jen Mitchell’s challenge that inspired my card:

CTS225Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Coffee Cafe.  We all love a good mug of coffee or a hot cup of tea or sugary frozen drink, right?  The Coffee Cafe suite evokes a feeling – it’s as much about catching up with friends or starting your day right as it is about a paper cup of deliciousness.  The Coffee Cafe bundle (including the Coffee Cafe stamp set and Coffee Cups Framelits Dies) is at the center of this suite, while the Coffee Break Designer Series Paper is the star.  The colors and patterns in this paper are all gorgeous!  Here’s a look at the bundle:

See the tiny, little Framelit in the bottom, left of the bundle picture above?  That shape coordinates with the cups in the Coffee Break Designer Series Paper.  Yay!  And here’s a look at the Coffee Break Designer Series Paper:Coffee Break Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!

  • Pattern Pairings.  My card features THREE patterns from the Coffee Break Designer Series Paper – the two panels behind the cup and the Soft Sky pattern on the cup.  Pairing patterns can be tricky, and a card can look too “busy” if the patterns collide.  When pairing patterned papers, identify the papers that have bold images and colors and the ones that don’t.  You don’t typically want to pair two bold patterns.  Let’s look at my card as an example – two of these patterns showcase one color with white, while the third features a lot of white space with four different colors in a bold pattern.  I’ve showcased one bold pattern with two subtle designs.
  • Build-a-Cup.  I was so happy with the way this cup turned out.  It’s a bit more layered than I originally thought it would be, and I had a lot of fun playing with the stamps and dies.  Here’s how I built my cup, starting with the bottom layer and working my way up:
    • I cropped the large coffee cup with the Coffee Cups Framelits Dies and Thick Whisper White cardstock.
    • I stamped the coffee cup from Coffee Cafe on the Coffee Break Designer Series Paper and snipped around the edges with my Paper Snips.  I glued it on top of the white cup I had cut out in the first step.
    • I cropped the lid with the Coffee Cups Framelits Dies and Thick Whisper White cardstock.  While there’s a coffee cup lid in the stamp set, I like the pure white lid.
    • I adorned the lid with a little coffee cup stopper by cropping it from the Coffee Cup Framelits Dies and Garden Green cardstock.  I glued the stopper behind the lid.
    • The coffee cup sleeve was run through the Big Shot with my Precision Base Plate and Crumb Cake cardstock.  Not only does the Thinlits die cut the shape, but it adds a fun corrugated texture.
    • I stamped the sentiment from Coffee Cafe on Thick Whisper White with Garden Green ink and cropped it with a coordinating oval in the Coffee Cups Framelits Dies.  I adhered the oval with a Stampin’ Dimensional.
    • I gasped at how sweet this cup turned out.
