As soon as I saw Jen Brum’s super-fun, odd-shaped sketch for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge, I knew I’d be creating something fun with my Pocketful of Sunshine Bundle. How is that shape NOT a pocket?! My five-sided polygon doesn’t quite match the dimensions of Jen’s, but the inspiration is 100% there. Here’s my card:
- Pocketful of Sunshine. If you are looking for a five-sided polygon, the Pocketful of Sunshine bundle just may be for you. On the surface, it’s a silly pocket, but there are so many great ways to showcase this set – you can pop it up (the dies are created with tabs underneath the pocket to tuck in a little gift card – or you could crop two to create a 3-D bag as shown in the catalog). I swiped my Dapper Denim pocket with Marina Mist ink before adding the flower to help separate the pocket from the Dapper Denim background. How fun! Here’s a look at this fundle (fun bundle):
- Solutioning. As I planned out this card in my head, I really wanted a flower to hang over the edge of the pocket- I thought that would add a bit of sophistication to the pocket and give it a really sweet feel (like I just picked a flower for you). I created petals and leaves with the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set and Blossom Builder punch. What I needed, though, was a swirly cutout for the flower stem – it couldn’t come straight down from the pocket. What to do? What to do? I looked everywhere before realizing it was sitting right in front of me. Just look at the tail that flows off the first “y” in the following die. With just a little snipping, I created the stem I dreamed up:
- The Little Things. With the little flower hanging out of the pocket, this card celebrates the little things. That’s why this sentiment was perfect! I will be reaching for this sentiment a lot – it’s from a new stamp set (conveniently) called The Little Things. Here’s a look at this new set (available in the 2017 Holiday Catalog starting September 1):
- Three Colors. How could I not start this card with Dapper Denim? With a “blue” in place, I needed a “green” and “red” to complete the trio of basic colors. I created my flower and leaves with Old Olive and Calypso Coral – and then created a Calypso Coral base for my blue, blue card. I love this combination. If you like these colors, too, please save this:
