As soon as I saw Jen Brum’s super-fun, odd-shaped sketch for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches challenge, I knew I’d be creating something fun with my Pocketful of Sunshine Bundle. How is that shape NOT a pocket?! My five-sided polygon doesn’t quite match the dimensions of Jen’s, but the inspiration is 100% there. Here’s my card:
And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:
- Pocketful of Sunshine. If you are looking for a five-sided polygon, the Pocketful of Sunshine bundle just may be for you. On the surface, it’s a silly pocket, but there are so many great ways to showcase this set – you can pop it up (the dies are created with tabs underneath the pocket to tuck in a little gift card – or you could crop two to create a 3-D bag as shown in the catalog). I swiped my Dapper Denim pocket with Marina Mist ink before adding the flower to help separate the pocket from the Dapper Denim background. How fun! Here’s a look at this fundle (fun bundle):
- Solutioning. As I planned out this card in my head, I really wanted a flower to hang over the edge of the pocket- I thought that would add a bit of sophistication to the pocket and give it a really sweet feel (like I just picked a flower for you). I created petals and leaves with the Bunch of Blossoms stamp set and Blossom Builder punch. What I needed, though, was a swirly cutout for the flower stem – it couldn’t come straight down from the pocket. What to do? What to do? I looked everywhere before realizing it was sitting right in front of me. Just look at the tail that flows off the first “y” in the following die. With just a little snipping, I created the stem I dreamed up:
- The Little Things. With the little flower hanging out of the pocket, this card celebrates the little things. That’s why this sentiment was perfect! I will be reaching for this sentiment a lot – it’s from a new stamp set (conveniently) called The Little Things. Here’s a look at this new set (available in the 2017 Holiday Catalog starting September 1):
- Three Colors. How could I not start this card with Dapper Denim? With a “blue” in place, I needed a “green” and “red” to complete the trio of basic colors. I created my flower and leaves with Old Olive and Calypso Coral – and then created a Calypso Coral base for my blue, blue card. I love this combination. If you like these colors, too, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Pocketful of Sunshine, Bunch of Blossoms, The Little Things Papers: Dapper Denim, Old Olive, Whisper White Inks: Calypso Coral, Old Olive, Marina Mist, Craft Whisper White, Archival Basic Black Accessories: Pocket Framelits, Blossom Builder punch, Happy Birthday Thinlits Die, Classic Label punch, White Stampin’ Emboss Powder, Heat Tool, Stampin’ Dimensionals

Thanks so much, Robbye! 🙂 I’m happy that I get to share with you every day. <3
I love how you made the swirly stem! Clever! The flower is as sweet as can be trailing out of the pocket! Love this!
Thanks, Linda! I had a lot of fun with this FMS sketch – I appreciate your comment.
Brian your cleverness has no end!
Thanks, Katrina! I really needed that stem to finish my vision. So glad it was there for me.
I’ll say it again: GENIUS. You never fail to wow with your design aesthetic and execution. I was TOTALLY unmoved by the pocket bundle until I saw your card today. Now I’m hooked!! And the stem is so clever…Yup. Genius.

Love this cheery pocket card, Brian. The flower is so cute. I have made pocket cards but usually for males. I love this idea of making it for a female. Thanks so much. Hope you’ve had a wonderful Saturday.
Thank you for your kind words, HJ! The flower adds a different touch to the pocket – I’m glad you like it. 🙂
Don’t let this go to your head but this is the best card I have seen with the pocket! Well done my friend!
Thanks, Windy! I haven’t really felt inspired by the pocket until I created this card. I’m so glad you like it.
What a fabulous card Brian! Love that pocket and the flower! So fun! Thanks for joining me this week at Freshly Made Sketches!
Thanks for your comment, Jen! I love your sketch! I might not have followed it exactly, but you definitely inspired this card.
I have seen a lot of other creations for this set. None of them gave me the “Wow” feeling like this card has. This card would definitely make me want to purchase it, if I didn’t already have it.
I was just st looking at my current stamp sets and came across this one wondering why I purchased two Stamp Sets.
Hope you don’t mind if I case this card for a class next year.
Becky, Thank you so much for your kind words. I’m so happy that my card inspired you to play with this set. I would be happy for you to CASE this card with your class. What fun!
LOVE your denim pocket!! And how totally sweet to have the flower over the edge! Thank you for playing along with us at Freshly Made Sketches.
