Night in Bethlehem for GDP102

Night in Bethlehem is Stampin’ Up!’s first Christmas bundle with a religious theme.  I also think it’s going to be one of the most popular bundles Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Holiday Catalog.  The stamps and dies can be used for a traditional card or for a card with modern feel.  I chose the latter to make this card for this week’s Global Design Project sketch challenge:

  • Night in Bethlehem.  How gorgeous are these die cuts that create such a beautiful backdrop on this card?!  Don’t they scream “Bethlehem”?  Has their ever been an occasion in your life when you had the occasion to scream “Bethlehem”?  Not only do I adore the cityscape background in the Night of Bethlehem bundle, but the sentiments are pretty wonderful.  The fonts are a perfect mix of modern and classic.  Here’s a look at this amazing bundle:

  • Layout and Layering.  I turned this week’s sketch on it’s side to best showcase these dies and stamp images. It’s OK to flip the sketches – as long as the basic layout of the sketch is still there.  These cityscape dies layer perfectly – the one in the background (cropped with the Basic Black cardstock) has a deep base to it so that the one in the foreground (cropped with the Crumb Cake cardstock) fits right along the base of it.  These dies were made for each other.Night in Bethlehem, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Keep it Natural.  This card called for neutral color combinations. Basic Black, Crumb Cake and Whisper White might not be a classic “Christmas combo,” but I think it’s lovely here.  If you are inspired by this natural color scheme, please save this:Stampin' Up! 8. I love this bundle and I completely agree it will be one of the most popular ones in the Holiday catalog. Your card is gorgeous and presents a complete departure from what is traditionally thought of as what a Christmas card has to look like. The use of neutrals gives its uniqueness that makes you take a second look. Awesome job Brian.

    • Thank you so much, Robbye! I love that you found these neutral colors appealing. I couldn’t think of any other way to showcase the beauty of these dies and stamps. <3

  9. Oh Brian – what a perfect card to bring back the true meaning of Christmas versus the commercialized version. I’m having a difficult time deciding what I can live without in the new catalog. If I won the lottery I’d just say “Brian, send me one of everything from the holiday catalog”! Unfortunately I’ll have to curb my instincts. Boy, SU sure has made this hard. LOL

    • Grace, Thanks so much. I’m sorry that it’s hard to whittle down your wish list but am so glad you like the catalog. That’s much better to hear than to hear you can’t find anything you like. <3 Thanks for your comments!

This is easily the best card I have seen made with this set! I really like it! Of course that is a favorite color combination of mine.

Thoughts, prayers, and well wishes to all those affected by “Harvey” over the weekend and the upcoming week. On the news today they showed an area about 3 miles from where we lived and it sent chills up and down my spine.

    • Thanks for your comment, Chris. This is such a sweet set – I’m glad you like the colors, too. Keeping my eye on the news in TX and staying in touch with friends in the path. <3

  15. Brian I don’t think I’ve ever used all Neutrals on a card, perfect for this card! Your thought process amaze me. Great job!

  16. Such a striking card Brian! Love it and with permission may have to case it.

  19. I love this card Brian. This set is on my soon to purchase list. Yours is just beautiful.

    • Thank you so much, Lynn! It’s a really great set and so easy to use. You’ll have lots of fun with it – and I’m sure your customers will love it, too.

  20. Love it, Brian. So the black cityscape in the background is also a die? I would love to see card that integrates both the city die & the city stamp. I realize you can’t cut out the cityscape with the die so I’d like to see how folks could use the two together. I’m a little irritated the city die & stamp don’t match

    • Tania, Yes, there are two die cuts that create the cityscape on my card. Both are Thinlits dies that stack perfectly together. Love them! I love that there’s also a stamp with a different cityscape, and I’m cool that they don’t necessarily coordinate – it gives us more options to create beautiful cards. I’ve not stamped the background, but I adore the cards I’ve see with it, including the ones above. Thanks for your comment.
