Be Inspired Blog Hop – 2017-2019 In Colors

It’s time for another Be Inspired Design Team Blog Hop – what fun!  The Be Inspired Design Team is a group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators from all over the world who are excited to share our themed projects with you.  I’m so honored to be a part of this group of talented stampers!

The theme for today’s Be Inspired Hop is “Stampin’ Up!’s 2017-2019 In Colors.”  I love making Fall and Christmas projects, but it’s nice to take a little break from all the fun break from all the browns and yellows of Fall and the greens and reds of Christmas to play with the new In Colors.  If you aren’t starting the hop here, then you probably just popped over from a visit with my adorable Aussie friend Louise Sharp at louisesharp.com.

Five new In Colors were gifted to us with the release of Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Annual Catalog – these five colors will be available for 2 years (unless they become a part of the permanent collection of colors).  The five are Berry Burst, Fresh Fig, Lemon Lime Twist, Powder Pink and Tranquil Tide:

I chose to play with Powder Pink for today’s hop.  Powder Pink is a sweet, flesh-toned pink that’s perfect for the arrival of a baby girl.  I’m using a couple of Holiday Catalog items, too, in my baby card that features Powder Pink.  Here’s my card for today’s hop:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Holiday Catalog for Baby.  There are so many great ways to welcome a new baby girl.  While this project features Powder Pink, the black and white on this card really stylize this project as a modern, fresh one.  I used two products from the Holiday Catalog to create this card for baby.  The fun, checkered background is Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper. I carefully trimmed around the paper to create a perfectly balanced pattern for this panel.  Here’s a look at the other papers in Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper:  Merry Little Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian King 144621The sentiment is from Watercolor Christmas stamp set.  I ADORE the script here and think it’s perfect for any celebration.  Here’s a look at this wonderful stamp set:

  • Have I lost my Mind?  This card was finished and photographed and ready to go. Something bugged me about it, though.  The Powder Pink border on the top and left of the card was too wide.  It felt so plain to me.  Soo…I cropped off the front panel (careful to not destroy my cardfront) and remounted it on a thin panel of Basic Black for an added layer.  Aaaah!  That worked better for me.  Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the two:Watercolor Christmas, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, baby card
  • Modern Sweetness.  Powder Pink is an obvious choice for a sweet baby card, but this much black is probably unexpected – it’s still lovely, don’t you think?  I love this bold pattern that’s somehow soft and sweet when positioned on a panel of soft pink.  If you like this combination, too, please save this:Stampin' Up! I like that you added the extra black border. It really made a difference. Another great choice. Hope you have a wonderful day.

  12. OMG Brian! I love the pink and black combo that you have contrived. As well that extra layer of black really does add that extra pizzazz! You are awesome! ?

  13. Beautiful card Brian. Believe it or not I think it would make a unique baby card for a little girl. I love the combination of Powder Pink and classic Basic Black and Whisper White.

  14. Just charming! The narrow border of black was a perfect add. Well done you!

  15. OH MY GOSH! What a great way to use that big plaid….LOVE it with the pink! And you keep using this little Christmas set, I might just have to break down and get it…love that big sentiment!

    • 🙂 Thanks so much, LeAnne! I can’t help but to use this set – I LOVE the fonts and sayings. I’m so glad you like the card – thanks for your awesome feedback!

  16. Sweet as can be for a baby card! I love it!

  17. Wowee! How much do I love this?! And you’re right, those little layers can make a huge difference.

  18. Love your style- very striking card! A little black adds so much pop to projects!

  19. Are the measurements for this card anywhere for stampers?

    • Hi JoAnne, Thanks for your question. Because I cut along the pattern of this printed paper, I don’t have an easy, even measurement for the panel. The card is a standard card base (4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″). Sorry I can’t give you more. <3

  20. I adore the Powder Pink with the bold check! Both versions look pretty darn cool!

  21. Different and wonderful as always Brian!

  22. Brian every time I think this is it “my all time favor” you go and make another one. This card is beautiful, hands down!

    • Wow. Thanks, Katrina. This one is just newer than the others, so it feels like a new favorite. 🙂 Thanks so much – I really appreciate your kind comments.

  23. Love this card Brian…would make a beautiful thank you card for wedding shower gifts too! Is that a 1/4″ strip of Powder pink on the DSP? Just lovely!

    • Thanks, Sandra! Yes, I added a thin strip of DSP to match the sketch and to give my bow and place to rest. I reached for ribbon, but it was too thick for this design. So glad you like it. <3

  24. I gasped when I saw this beauty in the wee hours of the morning. Love it.

  25. Brian.. this is amazing!!! Your card reminds me to our old Big Shot bag.. Do you remember it?
    Love your card.
    Hugs Tanja

  26. Oh, Joy! Oh, Wow!!! I love pink. Absolutely gorgeous card! Brings me joy just to look at it and now I think I will go make a card with that sketch!

    • What fun! Thanks so much for the energetic and wonderful comment, Angela! I’m so glad you like the card. It’s a fun sketch – I’m glad you plan to play along. 🙂

  27. Beautiful card have you made Brian ;O)
Love the powder pink and black ..

  28. Your pink and black card is gorgeous and such a modern look! Thanks so much for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches.

  29. Thanks Brian for the beautiful design. I CASEd your card (hope you dont mind). I changed the sentiment and gave to a dear friend battling Cancer. She had tears in her eyes and said it was a gorgeous card.

  30. Hi Brian, I found your card on Pinterest – quite a few years later! I had to make do with what I had since the SU supplies you used are mostly retired, but I think it turned out great! I embossed the pink background layer for a little added texture, I used some die-cut words since I didn’t have the stamp set, adding Glossy Accents to help soften up the black sentiment. It’s perfect for my co-worker who just had a baby girl – she’s a definite blend of girly girl and rustic tomboy, so I think she’ll love it!
