Grateful for You for CTS240

The moment I saw Chrissy Larson’s card layout at the CAS(E) This Sketch Challenge, I knew I’d be reaching for my Year of Cheer Specialty Washi Tape.  These shiny, metallic designs come in a fun variety of widths – and this sketch was made to showcase them.  What fun!  Here’s my card:

CTS240Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Year of Cheer Specialty Washi Tape.  I love the metallic shine of the Year of Cheer Specialty Washi Tape – and the variety of widths.  With copper, gold and silver foil, there are so many options for showcasing this tape – but the best way (in my humble opinion) is to showcase them all at once).  Mixed metals might not always be in fashion, but I think it’s quite cool.  These tapes pair with any of our foil sheets – there’s even a little Champagne shimmer in the widest piece of tape showcased above.  Here’s a look at this washi tape:

Here’s a video Stampin’ Up! made to showcase this washi tape and the other shiny things in the Year of Cheer Suite:

  • Seasonal Accents.  The washi tape was the start of my fall-themed card.  The rich colors lend well to a Thanksgiving project, so…  To coordinate with the gorgeous, shiny washi tape I cropped this gorgeous leaf from the Seasonal Layers Thinlits Dies with Copper Foil paper.  How gorgeous is that leaf?!  It just fits in that “bend” so well.  I added this sentiment from Remarkable You (I masked the “and”).  This set has proven to be one of the most versatile sets I’ve ever owned.  Here’s a look at Remarkable You:

  • Tip for Cutting with Foil.  If you’ve ever run a piece of of foil through the Big Shot, you’re left with a piece of lightly scratched foil (unless your cutting plates are perfectly pristine).  To prevent my foil from getting scratched, I place a piece of copy paper (often times a recycled shipping report from a Stampin’ Up! order) between the foil and the top cutting plate.  That’s cutting plate, foil, die, copy paper, cutting plate.  Not only does the piece I’m cropping stay scratch-free, but my leftover piece of foil can be used for another project.

I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

  1. This is such a beautiful card! Clean, simple, WOW!

  2. Such a cool diagonal and perfect translation of the sketch. Love the metallic touches!

  3. Thanks for the foil cutting tip. I have never cut with foil but I will today.

  4. Beautiful card, Brian. I love the copper leaf and the washi tape design. Last week, I needed the tip about how to keep scratches off the foils when die cutting them. Thanks for solving that problem. That’s why I love the cardmaking community…we learn from each other all the time. Have a great Sunday.

  5. Let me say I am grateful for you and this card! For one thing, you just usually brighten my day with your huge smile and wit as well as your creativeness! Then, this card is beyond, well I just can’t think of a really great word to say how stunning it is. I love diagonals as well as wonky tilts. After all, a diagonal is one big wonky tilt in my book. Sorry, about getting off task here. I love your card and the washi tape is just too cool. I want to try this! Thanks for the tips!

    • Thanks for your super-kind words, Chris! I’m so glad that I can share. So glad you like the card – that washi tape is gorgeous and fun to play with. You’ll have lots of fun with it. <3

  6. Hi Brian:
First of all your card is amazing, as always. Next, thank you so very much for the tip about cutting the foil card stock. I’m sure your hint will keep me from getting frustrated when cutting foil with the Big Shot. Just to let you know this is the perfect card to be sent to YOU……….we are all so grateful for you.

  7. I have to say that you found a striking way to make a deceptively simple looking and unique sketch sparkle. I love the use of the Year of Cheer washi tape, it adds shine without being over the top. Great job Brian

  8. WOW! This is truly stunning! The simplest designs are usually the most elegant.

  9. Such elegance! Love be all the foil and metallic tape! Beautiful card!

  10. What a beautiful card Brian! Thank you for the tip on cutting foil!

What’s your secret to gluing that leaf down?

    • Thanks so much for your comments, Pam! I’m so glad you like it. I almost always use Tombow Multipurpose Liquid Glue – and used it here. I put tiny dots all over the back of the leaf (on the joints where two or more pieces connect) and then pressed it to the card. After it dried, I “flicked” the edges of the leaf to lift it up a little from the card base. Hope that helps.
