More Than Chocolate for GDP106

Today’s card, based on a sketch for this week’s Global Design Project, is a short departure from Stampin’ Up!’s Holiday Catalog.  More Than Chocolate is a photopolymer stamp set that debuted in this year’s Annual Catalog.  I haven’t seen a lot of samples with this set, so I decided to give it a try!  I accented my chocolates with a little raspberry (more on that later) and like the result.  Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • More Than Chocolate.  The More Than Chocolate stamp set is filled with tiny (these guys are small) builder chocolates.  Each shape (rectangle, square, circle and triangle) has an outline image, a patterned fill and an accent fill so the options are endless.  Your select chocolates can fill a heart box or a circle box, but you can also just free-form your chocolates on the page.  I chose to mostly two-step stamp my chocolates and strategically fit them in the heart box for this sketch.  I have a couple sets of small blocks, so I was able to build-build-build without losing mojo to clean in between.  Here’s a look at this fun set:

  • A Burst of Berries.  I’m going to tell you a secret (and then it will no longer be a secret).  I don’t like corn, and I don’t like watermelon.  That’s not the secret – just the build-up to the secret.  I also don’t like the combination of raspberry and chocolate.  Yuck!  A delicious piece of chocolate cake or a rich brownie are absolutely ruined with that drizzle of raspberry sauce over or under the dessert.  Still…while creating this card, Berry Burst was the perfect color to pay homage to raspberry accents.  A couple of the chocolates in my heart-shaped box are ruined with a little touch of raspberry – and that gorgeous panel of ombre print from Color Theory Designer Series Paper Stack is a perfect backdrop, don’t you think?
  • Sweet Color Combination.  You don’t see a lot of the Chocolate Chip on this card (it’s the outline image of each of the candies), but it’s there.  I love this combination of colors – the Berry Burst really brightens up the neutral tones.  If you like this combination of colors, too, please save this:Stampin' Up! 1. Ok, so no chocolates with raspberry filling for you, eh? Oh, I’m just the opposite my dear, those two flavors melting in my mouth are YUMMY!! and so is your card, love that sponged background and your box of chocolates is divine.
Thank you for sharing your secret, now we all know what to give you for Christmas if you are naughty, 😉
    Big hugs,
    Maria.

    • You are right – if there’s a box of mixed chocolates, I’m nervous that I might choose the raspberry-filled ones. Peanut butter and chocolate – yes. Raspberry and chocolate – no thanks. Thanks for your comments – glad you like the card. 🙂

  2. This is the first sample I’ve seen for More Than Chocolate so I know it is the cutest! I sort of understand your raspberry problem. Don’t mess with my chocolates! Well, peanut butter is an exception. But the raspberry choice was the perfect color combination with the browns.

    • Right there with you, Dianne! I’m A-OK with peanut butter and chocolate – that’s probably my favorite thing in the world. So glad you like the card, the set and these colors. <3

  3. I really love this color combination! The card is adorable. I had ignored this stamp set. And I agree with your chocolate except for peanut butter and a chocolate covered cherry from Harry&Davids ❤

    • Thanks, Jackie! I feel the same about chocolate covered cherries as I do raspberry chocolates. No, gracias. BUT I’m with you on the peanut butter deal. Yes, please.

  4. I think you have convinced me to finally pick up this yummy set. Simple and sweet with the cutest font!

    • The font is SO Mary Fish. The set was actually fun to use – I was hesitant because of all the little parts, but I enjoyed making this. The math side of my brain came out for a fun time. 🙂 Thanks, Mary!

  5. Scrumptious!! I love the color combo! I will gladly trade you a raspberry for a buckeye:-) Question: Did you stamp each chocolate outline one by one or did you puzzle them all onto a clear block before stamping?

    • Thanks, Elisha! I should have made this post about peanut butter because almost all the responses approve it (logically so since peanut butter is the best). I stamped the outlines one-by-one and actually filled them in as I went. Took a lot of concentration to make sure I didn’t have to do it twice. 🙂 Good idea, though, to puzzle them out – except that there’s only one of each outline in the set. <3

  6. Wow, you were really thinking of me with all that purple and chocolate! Awesome card! Reese’s peanut butter cups are my fav – just sayin’

  7. To be totally honest Brian, I cannot remember seeing this set in the catalog so I’ll have to go back and take a look. I love the card and the saying is perfect for the hubs and the kids. The color combo is fabulous and, as so many others – why ruin a perfectly good Godiva with raspberry! LOL

    • Thanks, Grace! So glad you like the card and so happy to see that others are right there with me on the raspberry thing. I’ve always felt I was the only one in the world who didn’t want that garbage on my chocolate. 🙂

  8. I love all the layers of your card, Brian! Do you enjoy the weight of a “heavy” layered card, as I do, or is that just my quirkiness showing? 🙂

    • I, sometimes, can’t help myself from just adding more layers. 🙂 The size of the focal panel has to be JUST RIGHT before I stop adding more layers. 🙂 Thanks for your comments, Dawn!

  9. This is an absolutely yummy card! I’m not crazy about raspberry and chocolate together either, though I don’t think I dislike it as much as you seem to. I much prefer strawberry sauce on my chocolate desserts.

    • Thanks so much, Candy! I believe all chocolate desserts should come with vanilla ice cream, caramel or peanut butter. 🙂 I’m sure I will come up with something else, but I’m sticking with these three for now. 🙂

  10. Love, love, love! This card is gorgeous Brian. The color palette is unique and works so well.

  11. Funny thing Brian, as a child my taste buds were extremely limited, I didn’t like most things. I learned to like a lot, onebeing raspberry and the other being dark chocolate. ? psssst always liked peanut butter!

Love the card, I like Grace, don’t remember seeing this set. Yikes, I’ve only look through the catalog a million times. I was sorry when that last “love you more than chocolate” retired.

    • So glad I could point out the set – it got lost in all the great bundles that came out in the catalog. Always liked peanut butter? I knew there was something special about you. <3 Thanks for your kind comments!

  12. Another winner here, B! So pleasing to the eye.

  13. Sweet color combo – sweet card! Give me chocolate with any fruit, any time! LOL

  14. Chocolate should always include nuts, or at least peanut butter. Fruit is OK, but then it has to be dark chocolate. Love this sweet card and all of its’ berry goodness!

  15. Perfectly sweet card Brian!
No corn or watermelon! What the world do you eat at a summer picnic if the dessert is chocolate cake and raspberry sauce. 🙂

    • What a terrible picnic that would be – corn, watermelon and raspberry sauce. I suppose I’d have to starve. 🙂 Thanks, Dana! So glad you like the card. <3

  16. Alas, I’m not wild about chocolate… with or without raspberry, or peanut butter, or almost anything else. Yes, I will occasionally have a little, mostly to be social, but it just doesn’t grab me the way it seems to grab most people. But your card is visually irresistible and totally yummy!!! -as always 🙂 <3

    • I’m not a fan of chocolate-on-chocolate-on-chocolate, but it’s always better with peanut butter. 🙂 Thanks so much for your comment, LaVae! Always lovely to hear from you.

  17. Love the color combo!

  18. Well, I’ll take your chocolate/raspberry treats since I would hate to see them go to waste, but mostly I’m with u on the peanut butter: it is the food of the gods! I call it my soul food.

  19. Simple but lovely Brian, nice one!

  20. I LOVE this card Brian. Not the USUAL red and white which makes it stand out. Love everything about it! Happy Valentine’s Day Brian!

    • Thanks so much, Kathy! I was really drawn to Berry Burst for that very reason – AND because it looks like raspberry, which is a common pairing with chocolate. Thanks for your comment!
