Seasonal Chums for GDP112

Every four weeks, the Global Design Project design team invites card designers to create a project inspired by a selected card that was created by one of our designers.  To CASE is to “Copy and Share Everything” – (1) find inspiration in the layout, colors, theme, sentiment or images and (2) create your very own project.  What fun!  This week’s project comes from my super-talented friend Connie Collins.  Here’s my card:

Labeler Alphabet, Seasonal Chums, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP112And here’s the banner for the challenge, including Connie’s pumpkin-filled card, that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Stampin’ Blends – Available NOW!  I’m so excited about Stampin’ Up!’s release of a new set of alcohol markers – they are quite amazing!  The alcohol markers (offered in a dark and light shade of select colors) are so easy to use – they give such a uniform wash of color (with one marker) or beautiful depth and texture (with more than one color).  Stampin' Blends, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingWith nestable, press-fit lids, these markers are designed to stay sealed so the markers stay inky long-term.  After the Tuxedo Black Memento ink dried on my stamped pumpkin, I used light and dark shades of the Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive and Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends to color this gourd, its leaves and its stem.  I pulled away some of the color with the Color Lifter for an extra accent.  What fun!  Labeler Alphabet, Seasonal Chums, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP112If you’d like to read more about the Stampin’ Blends, CLICK HERE.
  • Labeler Alphabet.  When I wanted to create my very own sentiment for this card, I knew I’d be inking up my Labeler Alphabet stamp set.  What a great set!  I decided to let the little blocks of letters stand alone – if you connect them, it can look just like the old-fashioned label makers.  Here’s a look at this set:

Here are two tips for using these letters (based on my experience with them):

    • Lining it up.  You will want to line up these letters perfectly, but they don’t have to be perfect.  In fact, the more caddywhompus they are, the more adorable your card will be.  If you want to make them look like a label maker, simply stamp the left edge of one letter just over the right edge of the other.
    • Buy two.  If you love this set, then do what I did – buy two of them.  Also, buy some additional small clear blocks.  You’ll want to stamp one right after the other – and who wants to stop to clean a stamp and remount another letter?   🙂
  • Ticket Tear Border Punch.  When I squint-tested my card, my eye really wanted a little touch of Pumpkin Pie below the sentiment to work with the Pumpkin Pie in the pumpkin.  The little border of orange is created with the Ticket Tear Border Punch – I love this accent!  Here’s a look at this wonderful tool:

  1. Really cute card! Love the pumpkin and colors! Hmmm… how did I miss that punch??

    • Thanks, Candy! That punch is a quiet one, right? It was easy to miss in a catalog filled with so many beauties. It’s a great punch, though – I love it!

  2. This is a cute cute card ! You used two items that I have not seen anyone else use. That punch and the label letters !
    Love the sentiment !!!

    • Thanks for the comment, Sonny! I love the punch and think the stamps are so versatile and fun! They are used on so many funny greeting cards you can buy at the grocery store (not that I’ve looked at those)…

  3. I love this card. My Dad always called me “punkin’”! Such a good idea to have two alphabets so you can have extra letters.

    • Thanks, Judy! I’m all about keeping things easy. It’s a relatively inexpensive set – how could I NOT have two on hand? 🙂 So glad you like the card!

  4. Hello Punkin . . . brilliant idea. Combines fall and love!

  5. Such a sweet card Brian. The Labeler Alphabet set sure comes in handy!

  6. This is a really cute card, Brian. Great job of coloring. I like your tip on getting the letters straight. I had to laugh when you said they look better when they are caddywompus!! I have used that many times, but have never seen it written. Now I know how to spell it. Love that word!! Have a great day!

  7. Cute, Cute, Cute! We seem to be in a Pumpkin Pie, Old Olive mode!

  8. So cute, Brian! ?

  9. I have to admit I love both your card and Connie’s card. I used to call my youngest daughter Punkin’ LOL Are you reading my mind Brian? I cannot get enough of these fall colors (my favorite season), they are just so happy! Almost as happy as you make me every morning with your fabulous posts! TFS

  10. Someone is going to need new Blends soon, lol. Your take on the challenge is beautiful. Great job Brian.

    • Thanks, Robbye! I purchased two sets of each color and haven’t had to open a second set yet. I used one on my swaps for OnStage, too, and it’s still inky as can be. Yay!

  11. Well hello to you too! Yep, my dad used to call me his punkin too. Thanks for the tips on the use of the labeler set. Since I am all about the caddywompus, I even took a bigger block and placed it on the grid and “sort” of tried to line up the word on the block. It was a bit wonky but not too bad – a little spaced out between the letters but that adds to the charm, well sort of! Love the card and the coloring is perfect!

  12. I call my dog Punkin often when she’s looking or being sweet. Very cute card!

  13. Love how you singled out that pumpkin image from the stamp set…..worked perfectly here! Sweet card!
