SNEAK PEEK: Bird Banter (Day Two)

Stampin’ Up!’s On Stage event was a whirlwind of excitement! One of the most exciting parts of the event was my Stamp Showcase presentation on the Main Stage in front of 2,700 people – and I loved every minute of it! I created and shared five new projects with the Bird Banter stamp set that will be available in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog. On Tuesday I shared my swap card from Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage event last week (you can see that card here). Today I’m sharing the first of the five cards I shared on stage. Here’s my card:

Bird Banter, Lovely Inside & Out, Stampin' Up!, Brian King I used a fun sentiment from the new stamp set for the inside of my card – it works perfectly with the “friend” on the outside of the card, don’t you think?Bird Banter, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Products Showcased.  This new parrot from Bird Banter is perched on a sentiment from Lovely Inside & Out (from Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog) and paired with Coffee Break Designer Series Paper (also from Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog).  Both of these products seem designed just for this guy, don’t you think?  I have had a hard time showcasing the leaves on this pack of papers, but he makes it so easy for me.  Here’s a peek at the new Bird Banter stamp set:  Bird Banter, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, #145852Here’s a look at the amazing colors and patterns in Coffee Break Designer Series Paper:  Coffee Break Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!And here’s a look at the Lovely Inside & Out bundle – a must-have item:Lovely Inside & Out Bundle, Stampin' Up! 145324
  • Coloring Technique.  My parrot is colored with Sponge Daubers and accented with a Blender Pen. If you stamp the bird on a piece of Thick Whisper White and crop him out with a craft knife or electronic cutter, then you have a template that’s perfect for sponging:  Sponging with a Template, Bird Banter, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI started with a layer of Lemon Lime Twist and covered over that with Pear Pizzazz. I used a Blender Pen to add a little Garden Green to his wings. I sponged his beak with Daffodil Delight and then Pumpkin Pie. The bright colors underneath helped to bring life to this friendly bird.
  • Color Combination.  The greens and browns give this parrot and his environment a very natural and masculine look.  While I included Lemon Lime Twist on the bird and added Daffodil Delight and Pumpkin Pie on his beak, the card is mostly Pear Pizzazz, Garden Green and Soft Suede.  If you like this combination as much as I do, please save this:Stampin' Up! 1. I adore how your beautiful green guy is perched on FRIEND. Perfect placement.

  2. Absolutely adorable!

  3. This is such a fun set! Love how you perched the bird on the sentiment! Cute!

  4. I love everything about this card! The colors are fabulous and I learned a new way to color using the sponge daubers! They colored in the image beautifully.

    • Thanks, Susan! I had fun with this card – the layers build beautifully when starting with a brighter tone (a lesson I’ve learned from Lydia Fiedler). I was happy with how it turned out.

  5. The masking template is a new method of coloring to me. I love it! I have used the masking for placement of images but never thought of doing this. Well, I guess I was being lazy and just waiting for Brian to come up with yet another method for me to use. My bad. LOL Thanks Brian!

    • So happy to share, Grace. While trying to come up with some fun techniques for coloring, I thought this would be a fun way to add some nice shading of colors. Glad you like it.

  6. Great card Brian

  7. Iā€™m sure your presentation was a huge it, this card is so fun! Love the sentiment.

  8. One would have to be a bird brain not to love this! I thought you had used the blender markers but I see you masked/sponged the bird – what a fun idea. The DSP was perfect for this little dude. Is your presentation on the video from the whole thing? I have not watched it. I would love to see you in action.

    • Thanks, Chris! I’m told I’ll be able to get a video of my presentation, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to share it on my blog. šŸ™ It was fun for me to share these projects. Be on the lookout for the others. <3

  9. LOVED your presentation at OnStage; one of the highlights of the trip for sure! You are a natural and your design was amazing. One of my first purchases when we are able to buy that one. Alas, I didn’t win it on Prize Patrol!

    • Deb, Thanks so much for that kind comment! With all that happened while we were in SLC, I find it hard to believe that my presentation was a highlight, but I’ll accept the compliment. Thanks! <3

      • Brian, that is funny but I was being serious. Isn’t that amazing that you touched so many people that day?? My downline keeps asking me what you meant about “electronic cutting device” and it made me crack up. We use that, too, for some stuff. Anyway, I appreciate you responding to my comment, so many never take the time. Have a great night!! <3

  10. Love this card Brian such an inspiration…

  11. Nice ! Colors blend well. Thank you for your comment on my blog.

  12. Julie ā˜€ļø?? Reardon

Brian, how did you cut out the parrot? You mention an electronic cutter. What is that?
