SNEAK PEEK: Lots of Lavender for GDP116

I adore the entire team of designers at the Global Design Project. There’s a boatload of talent and a ton of kindness in this group. One of my favorite challenges is to CASE (Copy and Share Everything) a project that one of the designers has made. Inspiration can be pulled from the layout, the colors, the theme, the images, the sentiments – must I go on? This week’s designer is Jenneke de Jong – my super-talented friend from the Netherlands. Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

Lots of Lavender, Cheers to the Year, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP116And here’s the banner for the challenge, along with Janneke’s gorgeous card, that inspired my project for this week’s challenge:GDPD116I love the peaceful feel of this card – the colors are gorgeous and soothing, and the simple design is right up my alley. I was happy to jump in and CASE her gorgeous card.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Lots of Lavender and Cheers to the Year. When Sale-a-Bration kicks off January 3, customers will have so many great products to choose from with every $50 they spend. I do love Sale-a-Bration! One of those great items is Lots of Lavender, a photopolymer stamp set that showcases a bundle of lavender and watercolor spots that color in the image. Here’s a look at this super-sweet stamp set:

Today is the second day in a row that I’ve used Cheers to the Year stamp set (I don’t often use items on consecutive days), but it was the perfect fit for this card. Here’s a look at Cheers to the Year:

  • Coloring the Lavender. This beautiful bushel of lavender was an experiment that played out on this panel of Crumb Cake. I didn’t know where it was going when I started, but I am thrilled with how it turned out. Here’s a closer look at the finished product:Lots of Lavender, Cheers to the Year, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP116Here are the steps I took to stamp and color this bushel:
    • I stamped the image with Early Espresso ink on Crumb Cake cardstock.
    • Once the ink dried, I colored in all of the images with my White Stampin’ Chalk Marker.
    • Once that dried, I colored over the petals with Sweet Sugarplum and the leaves with Pear Pizzazz.
    • I touched up some of the lines (where I was a bit heavy-handed with the chalk maker) with an Early Espresso Stampin’ Write Marker.
    • I dabbed all of the petals with a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen.
  • Gorgeous Color Combination. From the very start, I was inspired by Janneke’s color combination – she created a gorgeous Christmas card that beautifully showcases Pool Party, Crumb Cake, Soft Suede and Early Espresso. What a sweet combination! I used Crumb Cake, Soft Sky and Early Espresso on my card and added a touch of Sweet Sugarplum and Pear Pizzazz. I love this card it is perfect,

  3. Every once in a while you just have to let the beauty of a card speak for itself. This is one of those cards and the Wink of Stella brought it to that level. Just amazingly beautiful Brian.

  4. Love the soft and elegant card with just a simple sentiment. The color palette is perfect!

  5. Wow, Brian! I love this color palette! I need to finish up with Christmas so I can try it out. Thank you!

  6. This is simple gorgeous-ness at its best! Beautiful! And your usethechalkmarkerfirst technique is fabulous!

    • Thanks, Linda! The plan was to end with the chalk marker. When it dried, I thought, “let’s see if I can add some soft color…”. Glad you like it!

  7. I love lavender and can hardly wait for this set! I also love this color combo. The inspiration card is lovely and so is yours. One of these days I will get busy. Unfortunately, I seem to be getting good ideas around midnight but don’t dare start creating then or there will be so sleep – just a small commodity I really seem to need. The Wink of Stella is perfect. I have a pen but haven’t tried it yet. This is a hard time of the year and I do not accomplish much in general. Now it seems there is too much I want to do, which as we all know, can backfire. You are ao generous in your sharing and I just want to say thank you.

    • Thanks so much, Nancy! Take your time getting back into crafting or tackling the projects you want to complete – they are meant to be enjoyed and shouldn’t stress you. <3 Thanks for you kind and thoughtful comments.

  8. Hi Brian,
Thank you for the nice words ;O)
Your card is amazing .. love it!

    xx Janneke

  9. Pretty colors …..and your card is just lovely !

  10. Love your idea about the chalk marker first, then color. The flowers are really illuminated. Great idea for crumb cake c/s!! This card is so pretty, so is Janneke’s. You did her proud!

    • Thanks so much, Cindie! I wasn’t planning to cover over the white, but I’m glad I played around with it. Happy with how it turned out. Always love to hear from you, my friend.

  11. ❤️❤️❤️ Lots of Lavender!!!

  12. Beautiful in its simplicity. I love the way you’ve coloured that lavender, Brian.

  13. Great card Brian! I tried this set on Crumb Cake this week too but my colors were too dark. I love the softness you achieved here and will be trying it again, hopefully with better results!

    • Thanks, Julie! I originally thought I’d just Blend in the Early Espresso to create a light brown on the inside of the image. Nope. That was too dark. Played around until I found something that worked for me. Glad you like it!

  14. Totally love the simplicity and the great idea for the flowers and the sentiment. Really good work!

  15. I love your card the softness of colors and the total compostion. Can you tell me what size card it is. I am trying to figure out the measurements for the layers.

    Thank Yo u

    • Thank you so much for your kind comment, Christie! The card is a standard 4-1/4″ x 5-1/2″ card. I don’t have the card anymore, but the Soft Sky layer is likely 3-3/4″ x 5″, and the top layer is likely 3″ x 4-1/4″. Hope that helps!

  16. Love this clean look – just gorgeous!
