Festive Phrases for GDP117

Yesterday I shared a sweet 2-1/2″ x 4-1/2″ with a new stamp set from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog. The colors at this week’s Global Design Project (Real Red, Lemon Lime Twist and Crumb Cake) are perfect for a sweet Spring-themed card. Because they are also perfect for a sweet Valentine’s Day card, I created a second project with the colors, using soon-to-be-retired products from the 2017 Holiday Catalog. What fun! Here’s my simple card:

  • Festive Phrases. I’ve made a couple of fun projects this season with the adorable elf from Festive Phrases, but the “to you, with love” sentiment has always called my name. I love the bold sentiment with the beautiful script. I tried the sentiment in a Layering Ovals die and a Lots of Labels die. Both were cool, but I loved the sentiment on a big, bold band. It played well with the Quilted Christmas Designer Series Paper, too! Here’s a look a this fun set:

  • Simple Band – Centered. No matter what size band you have, it’s always easy to center it along a piece of paper with evenly-placed stripes. For this band, I could have placed it randomly and let the stripes be where they may behind it. I could have placed it along the white strips, which would have left large chunks of red on either side of the sentiment band. I decided to center it between stripes for a more uniform look. It’s a little detail, but little details can make all the difference in the world.
  • Focus! Did I get your attention? πŸ™‚ When you look at this card (go ahead, scroll up and look at it again), where is your focus? If your eyes go right to the sentiment (in particular, the word “love”), then you are correct. I wanted to add some design to the red panel above my sentiment (sequins or pearls), but those embellishments stole the attention away from the beautiful words. That made it easy for me to leave them off. You should still buy all of the embellishments (especially if you are my customer), but only use them when they can enhance a project.

  2. Brian, your card today is totally amazing. Great work.

  3. Your creativity never ceases to amaze me. What a great card. The stamp set you chose is so versatile. It could work for so many different occasions. Only you would choose a Valentine’s Day theme for this challenge and execute it so beautifully.

  4. Simple and beautiful! I love it!

  5. Brian, of all the cards you’ve made that I have seen, this is one of my favorites! The layout is perfect, the color combination is delightful. I’m loving that stamp set. Great way to showcase it.

  6. What a gorgeous stamp. The font is fabulous and who except Mr. Genius would ever think that a Valentine’s day card would look lovely using Lemon Line Twist card stock. You are freakin’ amazing!

    • πŸ™‚ I love playing with colors. This image had all three – leaves, hearts and point on the arrow that could use all three colors, so I went with it. πŸ™‚ Thanks, Grace!

  7. This Valentine’s day card is adorable. Thank you for taking the time to explain your rationale about the placement of the band and the focus of the card. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

  8. What a great card Brian… and all from the Holiday Catalog! I didn’t even recognize the stamp you used… unfortunately I am not able to purchase every stamp set (as much as I would love to) and this is one I passed on.
