Message in a Bottle for GDP118

This week’s Global Design Project sketch inspired me to make a Valentine’s Day card with the must-have Valentine’s Day stamp set from Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Annual Catalog – Message in a Bottle. The simple layout works perfectly for this set. Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:GDP118Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Message in a Bottle. How adorable is this set?! It took a short while (OK, maybe a week) for the set to pop onto my “must have it” list. This set is perfect for Valentine’s Day – or any time of year that you need to share a Valentine-y sentiment – and Valentine’s Day will be here before you know it. Each sentiment pairs with one of the images in a way that is so corny that it’s really sweet. I stamped this bottle with Archival Basic Black ink and the filled with with the “I LOVE YOU” messages, stamped in Crumb Cake. The addition of a red heart at black banner rounds out the fun message I wanted to share with this card. Here’s a look at this stamp set:

I showcased the bottle of love notes on a bold, striped page of Christmas Around the World Designer Series Paper – it has a real nautical feel to it, don’t you think? Here’s a look at the other pages in this pack of papers:Christmas Around the World, Stampin' Up!, Brian King 144629

  • Sweet Panel. The fun sketch called for a vertical band across the panel of this card. A Crumb Cake panel is just what I needed, but I wanted to dress it up a bit. Using the small heart from the Message in a Bottle stamp set, I stamped a pattern with Versamark ink all over the panel. It added a little pattern without overwhelming the focal image. Easy! • Color Combination for Love. It was a really easy to pick the colors for this card. Real Red is a perfect color for Valentine’s Day. Everything looks great with Crumb Cake and Basic Black. Together, they are quite wonderful. If you like this combination of Crumb Cake, Real Red and Basic Black, please save this:  Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Crumb Cake, Real Red, Basic Black

  1. This is such a cute card. It would be appropriate for any age! Now I am thinking about that set!

  2. Beautiful alternate use of the holiday stripe paper. The bottle is so perfect as the circle element in the sketch!

    • Thanks so much, Mary! I had an idea for this card before I sat down to make it, but everything changed when I chose to use this set and this paper. So glad you like it!

  3. Card is adorable! Did you use White craft ink or heat emboss the sentiment?

    • Thanks, Dianne! I stamped it with White craft ink and then sprinkled it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder before heat setting it. It helps to “fill in the blanks” with white where the powder isn’t thick enough.

  4. Wow this is so cute! This service was not even on my radar but I adore the love note bottle!

  5. I love everything about this. The layers, the colors, the DSP, and the stamping. Beautifully balanced layout. And that bottle is perfect as the focal point. Great job!

  6. Oh Brian – How did you know I was looking for some inspiration for Valentine’s Day cards? This is such a fun set and I totally overlooked it in the catalog. I have young great, great nieces and nephews that would love those sayings. I better get out the catalog and refresh my memory. Love this card, love this set. Fantastic job as always.

    • The sentiments are so corny that they are perfectly wonderful! 🙂 Thanks so much, Grace! Glad you like it. This is the perfect set for children and adults, alike.

Brian you’re right, time goes by so fast, if you don’t start thinking Valentine now, you’re going to be LATE!

    • Thanks so much, Katrina! Since we started preparing for Christmas in July, it seems fair to start thinking about Valentine’s Day a month-and-a-half before. 🙂

  8. As your other fans have pointed out.. I liked the set, but really didn’t think I would use it … but just finished my New Years cards and thinking about Valentines Day… so now I have to have it
