My Kind of People for CAS(E) This Sketch

Boy, have I got some good news to share with you today! For the last three years, I’ve been playing along with the amazingly talented designers at CAS(E) This Sketch – a popular, online sketch challenge. Each week, we participants make clean-and-simple cards with the sketches they share. Always such fun! I’m excited to share that I am now a Designer at CAS(E) This Sketch – this is my first week! How cool is that?! I am honored to be a part of this group of amazing artists!

It’s A-OK to get a little loosey-goosey with online sketches, but I stayed pretty close to this week’s fun sketch. I used three piece of cardstock and one stamp set to make this sweet-and-simple card:

Hanging Garden, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS253

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

This week’s sketch (CTS253) a flashback to a three-year-old sketch, CTS107. CTS107 is one of the first CAS(E) This Sketch challenges I played along with back in 2015. If you want to see what I made with this sketch before, CLICK HERE.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Hanging Garden.  Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog kicked off yesterday with lots and lots of amazing, new stamp sets and bundles. There’s just something wonderful about the simplicity of the hanging baskets and fun sentiments in the Hanging Garden stamp set. I stamped this basket of flowers on Very Vanilla and again on Soft Sky (in the exact position). I then cut the Very Vanilla piece all the way to the basket on either side and then trimmed around the base of the basket:Hanging Garden, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingBecause there are four leaves that were pruned in the process, I snipped the tiny leaves and glued them back on the Soft Sky panel – didn’t quite grasp how small they were until I started snipping. Here’s a look at the Hanging Garden stamp set:

  • Color Blocking. Color blocking is used in fashion to showcase large blocks of bold colors that are often at opposite ends of the color spectrum. Here’s how color blocking plays out in fashion:While the colors I used on my project aren’t bold and bright like these, I showcase three large panels of color from three of Stampin’ Up!’s color families – Daffodil Delight (Bright), Soft Sky (Sublte) and Very Vanilla (Neutral). The layout comes right from the sketch, but the colors really play well together on this project.
  • Sweet Color Combination. Yellow and blue are always lovely together – almost any combination works. I love how the bright Daffodil Delight plays with the soft Soft Sky. The two are further softened with Very Vanilla. If you like this combination as much as I do, please save this:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Daffodil Delight, Soft Sky, Very Vanilla

Stamp Sets:  Hanging Garden  Papers:  Daffodil Delight, Softy Sky, Very Vanilla  Inks:  Archival Basic Black, Pear Pizzazz, Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Rich Razzleberry, Flirty Flamingo, Smoky Slate, Crumb Cake  Accessories:  Blender Pens, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!
