I love sketches – they often times give me a layout for a card that I’d never, otherwise make. For this week’s GDP sketch challenge, I set out to make a bold, vibrant Valentine’s Day card and ended up making a soft, sweet card that can be a card for a “new home” or a “new baby.” I love the inspiration I received from this simple sketch! Here’s my card:
And here’s the sketch for this week’s GDP challenge that inspired my card:Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Flying Home and Sweet Home. My card pairs a new stamp set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog with a sentiment in an Annual Catalog stamp set I’ve barely inked (and I’m rethinking that decision). For the little banner sentiment on this Flying Home stamp set, I pulled this “home sweet home” sentiment and coordinating banner from the Sweet Home stamp set and coordinating Home Sweet Home Framelits Dies. It’s a perfect pairing, don’t you think? Here’s a look at the versatile images in the Flying Home stamp set:
And here’s a look at the Sweet Home stamp set:
- Stampin’ Blends. I love the sweet colors in this card – I used the dark and light Stampin’ Blends to color the images in this set. Mama bird is colored with Dark Pool Party, and the baby birds are colored with Light Pool Party. The nest is colored with Light Crumb Cake, while the branch is colored with Dark Crumb Cake. I didn’t combine colors on this card (no blending with the Stampin’ Blends), but I had loads of fun coloring the images. Sale-a-Bration is a GREAT time to purchase the collection of Stampin’ Blends – such a wonderful coloring tool! With the purchase, you automatically earn TWO Level 1 Sale-a-Bration items or ONE Level 2 Sale-a-Bration item – and you are half-way to earning another Level 1 Item. That’s a no-brainer, right? Here’s a look at the collection of Stampin’ Blends:
- Color Combination. This sweet color combination happen by chance – I pulled the colors from the sweet Designer Series Paper and the Stampin’ Blends available to me. If you like this combination of Pool Party, Old Olive and Crumb Cake, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Flying Home, Sweet Home Papers: Whole Lot of Lovely Designer Series Paper, Pool Party, Old Olive, Thick Whisper White Inks: Tuxedo Black Memento, Stampin’ Blends (Pool Party, Old Olive, Crumb Cake, Pumpkin Pie) Accessories: Home Sweet Home Framelits Dies, Lots of Labels Framelits Dies, Stampin’ Dimensionals
How sweet are these little birds? They are perfectly accented by this little sentiment, don’t you think? I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!

Precious and the perfect shape for the bird and branch to “nest” in!
Thanks, Mary! I was grateful for the inspiration from the sketch because I likely wouldn’t have pulled out these fun dies! Glad you like it.
So totally sweet Brian, beautiful card for a new baby (or three? 😉 ) or a brand new home.
Love your color combination too.
XO
Maria.
Thanks so much, Maria! These little birds are so adorable (although probably pretty noisy). 🙂
Ok, this is just sweet, sweet, sweet! This is just the right color combo and stamp to say goodbye to all this winter weather we’ve had in the Deep South this year!
Thanks, Rachael! I’m in love with these sweet birds – glad you like my card with them, too. We need Spring here, as well. <3

Thanks so much, Dawn! 🙂
Love this very sweet card. Great take on the sketch. The colors, layered rectangles, label diecut, and that DSP really work so well together. Have a great day!
Thank you, HJ! I was thrilled to have this sketch as inspiration – I love how different all of the Design Team cards are – yet they follow the sketch. <3

Thanks so much, Cindie! So glad you like it. I struggled for a short while to get all the layers how I wanted them, but when it came together I was happy. <3
The sweetest!!!
Brian not only does the art work make this card so sweet, your choice of colors adds to the sweetness!
Thanks, Katrina! It was this sweet floral paper that started it all – and my options of Stampin’ Blends. Glad you like it!
So cute….. thank you for sharing such a sweet card.
Thanks, Carol! I’m happy to share it and grateful for your sweet comment.
Another great color combination, another great card. How DO you do it?
🙂 Thanks, Dianne! It just happens. My weekends are a little creation factory so I’m all built-up for the week. 🙂
HI Brian:
I found today’s card to be “calming”. The colors you chose would make someone relax while looking at them – like the sweet security of your own home or a baby sleeping. It’s hard for me to describe but I just love it.
Thanks so much, Grace! I love the pairing of Pool Party and Old Olive – neither is vibrant, so there’s a calmness that comes with them. There’s a warm feeling from these birds in their nest. So glad you “feel” the card. <3
Super cute card Brian. I love how you used this stamp set. You executed the challenge beautifully.
Thanks so much, Robbye! I had a different idea in mind when I started – love how it turned out. <3
Sweet for sure! Love the sentiment with the nest and the colors are perfect!
Thanks so much, Linda! This one came together perfectly for me. I love the individual elements and love how they came together. <3
Such a cute card. Thanks for sharing,
Thanks so much, Cindy! I love all of the products I used to make the card – and was thrilled when they all came together. Thanks for your comment! <3
