Barn Door for FMS322

Stampin’ Up!’s Barn Door Bundle gives us everything we need to make a sliding barn door. Shabby chic is all the rage these days (understandably so) – and barn doors are leading the movement. Along with the sliding door, the bundle contains wreaths, signs, sentiments and all the hardware for the door. I made a sweet-and-simple card with just the door for today’s card for Freshly Made Sketches. Here’s my card:

Barn Door, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingCécile Ribon created a simple layout for this week’s sketch – a rectangle with sentiment underneath. Fun! Here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:FMS322Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Barn Door Bundle. The Barn Door Bundle is quite fun! While I didn’t make my door into one that slides from side to side, I kept all the earthy fun of the image by stamping the door on Wood Textures Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at this fun bundle:

The coordinating Sliding Door Framelits have several dies to crop accents for the door. This wreath is cropped with a die that captures the wreath and bow. Another die cuts only the bow – so it’s easy to stamp again in a different color for a different bow – I just layered the bow on top of the stamped wreath: Barn Door, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

  • Masking the Sentiment. The Barn Door stamp set has two sentiments that work beautifully together – “May your troubles be less and your blessings be more” followed by “and nothing but happiness come through your door.” Perfect for each side of the sliding door, right? Because my door doesn’t slide, I wanted to capture a complete saying at the base of the card using the second sentiment. I masked OUT the “and” and stamped the sentiment. I then masked all of the first sentiment, except the “May” and stamped it down. So simple!
  • Natural Appeal with a Pop of Coral. The card stays pretty true to its barn door appeal with natural colors and a pop of coral. Calypso Coral can be bright or soft depending on what it’s paired with – I love the versatility of this color. With the browns, it takes a very rustic look. If are inspired by this combination of Calyspo Coral, Crumb Cake and Early Espresso, please save this is a reminder:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Calypso Coral, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso

  1. Marvelous color mix. I love how you kept the wreath tone on tone with the door. Classy.

  2. Beautiful card, Brian. Thanks for the tips about making the bow a different color (it pops in Calypso Coral) and how you cleverly redesigned the sentiment for this card. Very clever!! Have a great day!

  3. What a fabulous card you have for us today Brian. I was shabby chic before it became the fad it is today so I truly love all the decorating accessories on the market today. Leading that parade is this stamp set from Stampin’ Up. I’ve seen a gazillion of the cards made with the sliding barn door and all are great BUT once again, I love your design the best.

  4. Good morning, Brian

Since the sentiment is an old Irish proverb, perhaps a shamrock on the door or a lucky shamrock above the door?
