Southern Serenade

As I was running my finger over my stamp sets, looking for a card for a special friend, I realized I’ve yet to ink up and showcase Southern Serenade, a beautiful floral set from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog. The set is not my “normal style,” but I knew I could showcase the set with a clean-and-simple card. Here’s the card I created for my friend:

Southern Serendade, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Southern Serenade. Southern Serenade is composed of three great, versatile sentiments and a mix of flowers and lace. I’m not sure what tags this set “Southern” (perhaps these flowers are found in the South?) or “Serenade” (I don’t see anything related to love songs), but that’s A-OK with me. I love the scripted sentiments and think the flowers are beautiful. The lace doesn’t fit into my personal aesthetic, but I knew I could make it work. Here’s a look at the sentiments and images in the Southern Serenade stamp set:

  • A Touch of Wink of Stella. The Blushing Bride texture at the base of my card front is the “lacy splotch” stamped over and over to create a lovely texture that doesn’t look completely like lace. I stamped the flowers right over the stamped lace texture and colored them with a Pear Pizzazz and Blushing Bride Stampin’ Write Marker. To add a little additional “pizzazz” I colored the centers of the flowers with a Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Pen. What an easy way to add a little extra shine! It looks a little messy close-up, but this shows you the added shine:A touch of Clear Wink of Stella Glitter Brush adds amazing shine to the smallest flowers, Southern Serendade, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Soft Color Combination. I’ve always been partial to Pear Pizzazz for a soft green – it’s so subtle and sweet. It’s perfect when paired with Blushing Bride! 1. Beautiful style and love those “lacy” touches. Perfect pop with the wink of stella!

  2. Love this card Brian! So pretty!

  3. I love how you used the “lace splotch” on this lovely card. Pear ? Pizzazz is one of my favorite colors! Thank you, Brian.

  4. It’s funny how we skip over some sets in the catalog without really seeing them. I like the lace and really like the sentiment. Thanks for sharing your pretty card Brian!

  5. This is beautiful, Brian! Even though the stamp isn’t your style you did an over the top job using it! If I can squeeze in one more order before the end of March I might just get this!!

  6. The lace splotch is perfect to ground the pretty flower. Enjoy your day!

  7. Sweet flowers! They have to be southern because up here there is not a flower in sight! Pretty card!

  8. I think this card is fabulous Brian! What a great card to send to someone who needs a little pick-me-up. You did a beautiful job and yes, I really do love the lacy stamp. And yes, I did overlook this set but will take another look. I do love the sayings.

  9. I really like the softness and the stamping at the bottom. I have a card posting Thursday with this set and it is bold..thanks for the inspiration!

  10. Beautiful card, Brian. Great picture of the Wink of Stella touches. I love it and am often frustrated that the photos don’t show how much it adds to an image. Nice!

    • Thanks, Dianne! I don’t use a lot of shine because it’s so hard to photograph. It’s tough, but with so many shiny foils and accents, I’m forced to create with it and just figure out how to photograph it.

  11. Brian I ADORE this card. The colors are so in my wheelhouse. I think they call it Southern Serenade because it has those lacy, soft feminine images that are so associated with the idea of a “Southern Belle”. This card is gorgeous. Great job

  12. And , I said ooooh I love that card ,
