Southern Serenade for GDP130

This week’s Global Design Project sketch challenge had me reaching for soft tones and sweet images. My card includes Powder Pink Designer Series Paper, Powder Pink ink and a wee touch of Powder Pink cardstock. I committed to Powder Pink for this card, and it’s as soft and sweet as I imagined it would be. Here’s my card:

  • Stamps. My pink and gray card features two stamps from very different sets. The branch of soft, sweet flowers is from Southern Serenade, a new stamp set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog. The sentiments in this set are gorgeous – and wonderful. There’s a delicateness to these flowers that really appeals to me. Here’s a look at the Southern Serenade stamp set:

The “OH, HELLO” sentiment is from a limited time stamp set called Color Me Happy that coordinates with a fun Color Me Happy Project Kit. The set and kit were first introduced with the Stampin’ Blends – what fun! I love the versatility of this sentiment (“oh, hello” can be super casual or just a sweet hello), and I love the images in this set and have used them often. • Ink. I love the smoky tones of Powder Pink – it pairs perfectly with Basic Gray (which is why I’ve used so much of the two colors on this card). Smart, heh? With a scrap piece of cardstock, I cropped a circle with the 2-1/4″ Circle punch. I placed the punched cardstock over the 4-1/4″ x 3″ piece of Thick Whisper White cardstock and swiped an inked Stamping Sponge in a circle around the template. Around and around and around until I had the concentration of Powder Pink I wanted as a base for my flower. I then stamped the flower in Basic Gray and sat back to feel excited by how beautiful it looked. Such a simple way to create an amazing effect.
  • Paper. The background of my card is covered with a Powder Pink panel of paper from the Fresh Florals Designer Series Paper Stack – so many great pages in these papers, and this one gives a perfect backdrop for these criss-crossing panels. The “OH, HELLO” sentiment is stamped with Basic Gray ink on Thick Whisper White and snipped out. Beneath the sentiment is a tiny row of scallops – these are the remnants from one punch of the Ticket Tear Border Punch. Instead of creating a ticket tear border, I grabbed a leftover piece that was punched out to create this beautiful scalloped edge. Here’s a closer look at this element: Use the remnants from the Ticket Tare Border Punch to create a small scallop, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAnd here’s a look at the Ticket Tear Border Punch:

  1. Such a soft and pretty card Brian, and so many great products. And yes, you ARE the smart one!

  2. Love the gray and powder pink – especially how you sponged the circle as a “spotlight.” I hadn’t noticed that sentiment until you used it. Perfect!

    • Thanks, Mary! I worried the sentiment might be too informal for this soft, sweet card, but I think it was transformed a bit by its surroundings. 🙂 Glad you like it. <3

  3. Love your colors and the circle highlighting the flowers! The best is the scallop punch with the sentiment! Sweet Card!

  4. I agree with Windy ….your tiny scallop border is a plus . I think it is a SWEETNESS touch with the soft pink !!

Great card sketch and colors. You can easily change out the sentiment for a great stash of cards. I am hoping I have a punch with scallops on it. I am sure I probably do or a die as your version added just the right element.

  6. Simply lovely card! Adding the ticket tear border unde the sentiment was that perfect subtle touch.

  7. Beautiful card Brian. I use the Powder Pink and Basic Gray whenever I am making a baby card for a girl. I do love the bit of ticket tear border – it does add just the perfect touch. My favorite stamp from that set is the lace. It makes a very feminine background, especially for wedding cards.

  8. Pink and Grey is a favorite, need to think of sponging more often, like how it highlights the flower.

  9. Naturally you reached for Southern Serenade when you were looking for a stamp set to use with a card that featured Powder Pink so prominently. The images work so well with a soft almost ethereal card. Great job Brian.

  10. Oooooh, my friend, I love it , simple and beautiful ♥️Love those 2 colors together, Tfs
    Hugs Frenchie ♥️

  11. I haven’t been sold on the Ticket Tear punch, but am now going to have to get it asap. This card is so soft and stunning. Beautiful!
