Last weekend was a whirlwind of excitement – with my Stamp-Along event, CenterStage and OnStage, I was a busy boy. After a little “down time” this week, I was happy to play with some of the new products I received over the weekend. Here’s a cute card I made for the FabFriday sketch challenge that kicks off today:
And here’s the banner for the FabFriday challenge that inspired my card – what a fun sketch Mindy Backes has created for us to play with this week:
Tips, Tricks and Reminders
- Animal Outing. Stampin’ Up!’s OnStage event last weekend, demonstrators were showered with sneak peeks, great demonstrations and free product. All attendees at the event received the Animal Outing stamp set from the Animal Expedition Suite in the new catalog. What fun! The rhino and kangaroo (with a koala in its pouch) are the stand out images in this set, but I really love the bitty frog, so I knew I wanted to feature him today. Here’s a sneak peek look at this fun, new stamp set that will be available in the new catalog:
I love the fun sentiments in this set. I stamped “thank you BIG TIME” in Archival Basic Black on the Thick Very Vanilla panel and then stamped the frog and branch in Mint Macaron on top of that, allowing the Mint Macaron image to blend into the bold sentiment. I love the combination of the “BIG” sentiment with the squatty, small frog. 🙂
- Layers. I love the simplicity of this fun sketch from FabFriday – and my card is obviously inspired by it. In very “Brian King fashion,” though, I had to add my own layers to build up to the small panel on the front. I used the Diagonal Stripes background stamp to add a little texture to my background panel of Mint Macron cardstock. Here’s a look at this stamp set:
Here are the other layers on my card (starting with the base and working toward the front of the card):
- Crumb Cake – 5-1/2″ x 8-1/2″ (scored at 4-1/4″)
- Mint Macaron – 5″ x 3-3/4″
- Thick Very Vanilla – 4-1/2″ x 3-1/4″
- Mint Macaron – 4-3/8″ x 3-1/8″
- Crumb Cake – 2″ x 3-1/2″ (cropped with Banner Triple punch)
- Thick Very Vanilla – 3-1/2″ x 2-1/4″
- Soft Colors. I’m so excited for the upcoming Color Revamp (I’ll be sharing much more about that tomorrow). There are some great, new colors headed out way – and some returning favorites. Yay! When I saw that Mint Macaron was returning, I couldn’t wait to dig Mint Macaron out my retired stash of papers. What fun! I adore this combination of Very Vanilla, Mint Macaron and Crumb Cake. If you like it, too, please save this:
Stamp Sets: Animal Outing, Diagonal Papers: Crumb Cake, Mint Macaron, Thick Very Vanilla Inks: Mint Macaron, Archival Basic Black Accessories: Banner Triple Punch, Stampin’ Dimensionals
I hope you’ll pop over to the FabFriday site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.
Thanks for stopping by today!
Brian

Adorable! That little frog’s a hoot. He looks a little shifty, like he’s up to something, doesn’t he?
I agree – he seems like he’s just caused a little trouble. I like that. 🙂 Thanks, Candy!
Great card! Love the little frog – that stamp set looks like it’s going to have to go on my wish list!
Go ahead and add it now, Vicki! 🙂 Thanks so much – nice to hear from you, my friend.
C-U-T-E stamp set … the way the animals are drawn is especially detailed yet soft. Your card just extends that with the soft color palette. I really have grown to appreciate Mint Macaron.
Thanks so much, Suzie! I’m so glad you like the card – the set is really cute. I am so happy to have Mint Macaron back! <3
Love how you used the striped background stamp Brian, it’s such a great showcase for the sentiment panel.
Thanks, Dawn! I needed more in the background to fill from the small panel. Was happy to have the stripes to play with. <3
Oh! I was planning on playing with this set today. So cute. Great job with the sketch!
Can’t wait to see what you make, Dianne! You’ll have fun with it.
A hopping good card idea and darling colors. Fabulous layering of the Mint Macaron pattern.
Thanks, Mary! I had lots of fun with this card – the layers make me very happy, and that sassy frog…cute.
I had not even noticed the little frog and wondered what people were talking about! I guess I was too busy checking out the diagonal stamp – what a difference that made, wow! I still have a 1 1/2 packs of the Mint Macaron from before to make some cactus. Great color combo again! Fun card and looks like it will be a fun set to use too! Is that a koala bear in the kangaroo pouch?
Thanks, Chris! I’m so glad you like it and happy you still have some Mint Macaron. That’s one less thing you need to buy from this awesome catalog. <3
Love seeing Mint Macaron back in the mix..it makes for some great color combos like this one! Sweet card!
Thanks, Windy! There’s was something so exhilarating about pulling out that Mint Macaron paper. 🙂
What a cute card, Brian. I love the bitty frog on the branch. Great take on the sketch and wonderful colors. Enjoy your day!
Thanks, HJ! I’m so glad you like it. That frog makes me smile. <3
Brian I was delighted to receive this stamp set, it’s adorable! Love how you used the diagonal stripes in the background. Your card is so fun!
Thanks, Katrina! I reached for the Diagonal stamp because I needed texture but don’t have any current DSP with Mint Macaron. I was happy with how it turned out. <3
Fun sketch……cute image……wonderful layers ……means wonderful fun cute card!
Thanks, Linda! <3
This card is great! I love how you take the often small, overlooked images in a stamp set and create fabulous cards! I am always surprised by things I never “noticed before” in your cards. Thank you!
Thanks so much, Susan! I love that you notice that because it’s always very fun for me. Glad you like my card. <3
Absolutely adorable! Love this set and love the “Brian King” way you designed this card.
Three cheers for the return of Mint Macaron!
Thanks so much, Nina! I had fun playing with Mint Macaron again – <3
How cute – I didn’t spot the little frog at first – such a great card
🙂 Thanks, Fiona! He’s a shifty little devil and not very noticeable – but when you see him. 🙂 Thanks!
In love with this background stamp. Would also love this stamp with the stripes going the other way. Imagine the possibilities!
Thanks, Sheryl! This is a versatile stamp – glad you like it, too. <3
