Butterfly Basics for CAS(E) This Sketch

This week has been very nostalgic – as I start to take my retiring items off my shelves, I’m giving many of them “one last spin” and loving every minute of it. What fun to play around with these goodies (many that I haven’t played with in quite some time) before they get boxed up and hauled away! For this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge, I’m playing with Butterfly Basics and So Many Shells one last time. Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Retiring Items. I don’t want you to miss out on all the wonderful items that are going away – to check out more about Stampin’ Up!’s Retiring List, click here. Here are the retiring items that I’ve showcased on my card today (you can click on the items below to see them in my online store):
    • Butterfly Basics. This set has been around (and popular) for many years. While the stamp set have a very “vintage” feel to it, it’s still appealing for a clean-and-simple card. I love this cluster of flowers – perfect for almost any occasion.
    • So Many Shells. This set features a lovely collection of seashells, but it’s the collection of sentiments that makes me happiest. If you love shells or sentiments, you should give this set a look!
    • 1-3/8″ Circle punch. I love my punches, and I love my circles. I probably use my 1-3/8″ Circle punch more than the others, but I’ve already moved it to my “to sell” box. I have other punches and Layering Circles Framelits, so I’ll be set, but this punch has been very god to me. <3
    • Note: The Wood Textures 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper and Blushing Bride paper are NOT being retired and are being carried over into the 2018 Annual Catalog. Yay!
  • Building the Sentiment. I really like the white heat-embossed flowers against this gorgeous hardwood paper – so rustic and so clean. The sentiment, though, made me very happy. Here’s a closer look at the sentiment: Butterfly Basics, So Many Shells, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS268Here’s how I build the layering for this gorgeous sentiment:
    • I stamped the sentiment from So Many Shells with Early Espresso ink on Blushing Bride cardstock and punched it out with the 1-3/8″ Circle punch.
    • With my 1-1/2″ Circle punch, I cropped a circle from Early Espresso cardstock.
    • I used a small scrap of Crumb Cake to crop the fun label from the Petals & More Thinlits Dies (coordinates with the Petal Palette stamp set). I snipped a segment from the middle of the cutout so that it fit perfectly behind my circles.
  • Pink and Brown. When I use Pink Pirouette (like I did on Monday), I pair it with gray tones, and when I use Blushing Bride (like I did today), I pair it with brown tones. I love – and have always loved – the combination of Blushing Bride, Crumb Cake and Early Espresso. It’s a combination I come back to a lot. If you like it as much as I do, please save this:Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Blushing Bride, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso

  1. The Butterfly Basic stamp set has been one of my most used. It makes a beautiful card. I’ll put it to the back of my stash but know it’s there if I need it. Lol.

  2. Love reading your work everyday…it makes my day…you said today your stamps get hauled away? Where to? Thanks for always sharing your awesome ideas and love the the colors you put together…I’ve got many of them saved, as I also use when I’m picking out yarns to do blankets for the vets hospital and the homeless. Thanks your just the bestest!

    • Thanks for your comments, Kathy! “Hauled away” was a bit dramatic – maybe because it’s the emotion I feel when taking the sets off my shelves. I box them up and will eventually sell them. Because I’m a demonstrator, I don’t showcase items I can’t sell. <3

  3. Great card Brian, LOVE this sentiment!

  4. What a great sketch and I love what you did with it! Somehow I have never seen that wonderful sentiment! Love this!

    • Thanks, Linda! There are lots of great sentiments in the So Many Shells set – there are many that I love but have never inked up. 🙁 Thanks!

  5. I love both of those sets! Love your heat embossing on the wood and the pink /brown combo!

  6. Perfect card for so many occasions. And you know I love, love, love the white heat embossing. Will miss that stamp set.

  7. This is a home run (especially for a last spin for the retiring products). Gorgeous stamping on the wood dsp and delightful colors!

  8. I love the white embossing on the woodgrain and that wonderful sentiment that I’ve never seen before. The Basic Butterfly set is one of my favorites, although I don’t use it that much. I’ll have to re-think that, since I’m not a demo, I can use products I love. One good thing about getting a new catty for your demonstrators is that you “need” to get rid of the retiring items. With me, there is never a need to do that and therefore, my stash keeps accumulating. I have figured out that it why demonstrators’ craft rooms are so neat and then there is one like mine! LOL! Enjoy your day

    • Hi HJ:
It’s nice to know that someone else holds onto their stamp sets forever. I still have mine from when I started stamping in 2001. I keep trying to convince the hubs that I need the bigger room (the master bedroom) for my stamping and quilting hobbies. My supplies are taking over and I can hardly walk in here. However, it is neat and organized, just crowded. Thanks for letting me know I’m not the only stamp hoarder. LOL

      • Thanks so much for your comments. I’ll be honest – there are quite a few sets and papers that I hold on to and will likely keep forever (I just don’t create with them and showcase them on my blog). There’s always a clever way to make more room for the stamp sets and supplies we need. 🙂

  9. Oh Mr. Brian – this card is so, so, so pretty and yes, I too love the sentiment as well as the white embossing powder. The embossing powders are such a great investment as they last close to forever. I’m still using some I got in 2001! Thanks for sharing all the knowledge you share with us.

    • Thanks so much, Grace! I’m always happy to share and always appreciate your kind words. <3 As long as the embossing powders are stored in an air-tight container, they'll last quite some time. Thanks!

  10. Beautiful Card…love the layers!

  11. I’m glad you’re enjoying your retiring stamp sets because I’m getting the joy of your creativity. This card is truly lovely. Great job

  12. Gasp! This is stunning. Really stunning.

  13. Oh, this is beautiful! I love the white embossing on the woodgrain patterned paper! Fabulous take on the sketch!

  14. I love the pop of white on the wood. Gorgeous!
