Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog: Deconstructing the Cover

I’m getting really excited about Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog. Not only have I already made my complete wish list of all the things I need from this new book (I’m going to have to order in stages to get everything I want), but I’m excited to see what my team and my customers will be ordering (and loving), too.

Some of my customers have started to receive their new catalogs – and the feedback has been wonderful. As others start to receive theirs, I’m sure I’ll hear from them, too. While I can’t share the inside of the catalog online just yet, I am able to show the front of the catalog (nothing new). Today I’m sharing some of the projects featured on the cover and what colors or new products were used to make each one. What fun!

First things first. Here’s a look at the cover of Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog:

2018 Annual Catalog Cover photoIsn’t that gorgeous?! With this cover design, Stampin’ Up! has created a rainbow of stamped images, papers, ribbons and embellishments that surround it’s big, bold logo. The Night of Navy logo takes center stage on this cover, but the surrounding elements really stand out.

Here’s a closer look at each of the six colors featured on the cover of this catalog, including some of the products featured in each section:

Lovely LipstickDarling Label Punch Box, Stampin' Up! 2018 Annual Catalog Cover, Lovely Lipstick

This 3″ x 3″ note card showcases one of my “I can’t wait to order it” items in this new catalog – the Darling Label Punch Box. This punch box includes a 6-piece photopolymer stamp set, a clear stamp block, Grapefruit Grove and Night of Navy Classic Stampin’ Spots, a Darling Label punch and an 8″ x 8″ x 3″ tin to hold all of those things. The tin is designed with gold and Night of Navy. The floral image in one of the stamps in this punch box, and the shape is the Darling Label punch. Not only does this card feature the punched shape on the sentiment, but the entire background of the card is created with the punched shape in Lovely Lipstick.

The card features a strip of Lovely Lipstick paper from the 2018-2020 In Color 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper and a piece of Lovely Lipstick 1/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon.

Grapefruit GroveRooted in Love, Stampin' Up! 2018 Annual Catalog Cover, Grapefruit Grove

The sweet tag on the top, right of the catalog cover features a peaceful tree from the Rooted in Nature Bundle. Must have, must have, must have. The tag topper is cropped with the Beautiful Layers Thinlits Dies, part of the Petal Promenade Suite – such a delicate topper for the tag. The tag is tied with a piece of Silver & Whisper White Baker’s Twine and a piece of Grapefruit Grove 1/8″ Grosgrain Ribbon.

I love the base of this card, too, that’s created with a page from Nature’s Poem Designer Series Paper – such beautiful texture. The adorable Grapefruit Grove paper clip is found in the Share What You Love Embellishment Kit.

Crushed CurryTea Room Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 2018 Annual Catalog Cover, Crushed Curry

How gorgeous is the yellow flower that graces the right side of the Stampin’ Up! logo? This image is snipped from the Tea Room Specialty Designer Series Paper, a lightweight, delicate paper with beautiful color washes that coordinates with the Tea Room Suite of products. The pack of paper includes 24 sheets (4 each of 6 double-sided designs) and is light enough for card accents, envelopes and envelope liners.

Close by – Right below the flower is a Grapefruit Grove Tinted Faceted Button, a translucent colored button. The buttons come in a pack of 24 (8 each of three colors in 2 sizes – Call Me Clover, Lovely Lipstick and Grapefruit Grove.

Granny Apple GreenRooted in Love, Stampin' Up! 2018 Annual Catalog Cover, Granny Apple Green

Not only does this 3″ x 3″ card showcase the gorgeous, new Granny Apple Green color, but it offers another look at the Rooted in Nature Bundle. The sentiment, one of my favorites, is from this must-have set as are the gorgeous leaves on either side of the sentiment. leaves and sentiment. The new Leaves Trinkets are on display here, too. The Leaves Trinkets coordinate with the Nature’s Poem Suite of products and include 24 pieces (6 each of 2 designs in two colors).

The card is accented with piece of Granny Apple Green 1/2″ Textured Weave Ribbon – I love the white stitched edges on this gorgeous ribbon!

Close by – right below this card is another Tinted Faceted Button – this one is Call Me Clover.

Coastal CabanaDarling Label Punch Box, Tea Room Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 2018 Annual Catalog Cover, Coastal Cabana

The Coastal Cabana portion of the cover gives us another peek at the Darling Label Punch Box (this stamped sentiment is one of the six stamps in the coordinating set) and the Tea Room Specialty Designer Series Paper (the flower is nipped from a page of this paper). The Coastal Cabana Stitched Shapes circle also showcases a piece of Coastal Cabana and copper ribbon from the Tea Room Ribbon Combo Pack. The pack contains two spools with 5 yards of ribbon on each spool – one is Very Vanilla/copper 1/8″ ribbon, and the other is Coastal Cabana/copper 1/8″ ribbon.

Close by – Just above the Coastal Cabana tag is a Coastal Cabana doily. The doily is part of a set of Colored Doilies, a package of 24 doilies (six each of four colors). The other colors in the pack are Flirty Flamingo, Grapefruit Grove and Old Olive.

Fresh FigHealing Hugs, Stampin' Up! 2018 Annual Catalog Cover, Fresh Fig

How beautiful is the Fresh Fig Flower on the left side of the catalog cover?! The flower is stamped from the Healing Hugs stamp set, a new DistINKtive image. Remember the Heartfelt Blooms stamp from the 2018 Sale-a-Bration brochure? This flower stamp is designed with a similar process to lay down the ink at different opacities to give great depth to the image.

Close by – Leaves from the Rooted in Nature Bundle are shown just above (and a little to the left of) the flower.

I hope you enjoyed this walkthrough of the images and colors on the face of this new catalog. Can’t wait to hear what your favorites are on the inside pages of this amazing book.

  1. Good Morning Brian, Yes, I love the cover. Although I was lucky enough to go to On Stage in Hartford and get a catalog, I waited for my first order and have a nice fresh, non-dog-eared one, to bring to Staples to get wire-bound. Do you do anything to your catalog? I’ve seen a lot of demos putting tabs . . . some on the top and some on the side.
    Have a great day.

    • Hi Nancy, I did the same – as soon as my box of catalogs arrived, I took it to Kinkos/FedEx to have it spiral bound. It’s so much easier to open up and flip through that way. I don’t put tabs or anything else on the catalog – they would just get ratty over time with as much as I flip through the book. <3

  2. Brian the Catty cover is pretty, however; your close-ups are beautiful. It made me take a double take of the cover. Granny Apple Green is so very lovely in the Rooted in Nature Bundle.

    • I’m so glad you like them, Katrina! There’s so much to take it – I thought it would be fun to look at each project one at a time. <3

  3. Great study of the cover! Can’t wait to order the Darling Label Punch Box (among other things)!

  4. This makes me slow down and really drink in the pretty samples on the cover. Thank you!

  5. I love the cover and actually scanned each color and card because it was so interesting . I like the idea of the keeping my catty in pristine condition ,but that only lasts for a couple of days . I have tabs and post it notes and book marks already in mine. This helps for those microscopic printed words that are so hard to read !
I am REALLY interested in some of the new dies . Can`t wait to see all the videos coming out demonstrating those !
Thank you ,Brian for highlighting these items on this pretty cover . I will be excited to see what you show case once June gets here with the actual catalog opening !! FUN!

    • It’s all so exciting, isn’t it, Sonny?! There are some amazing bundles that do really cool things, so the videos are really helpful. Glad you like the way I’ve showcased the projects on the cover. <3

  6. Love all the details you pointed out today. Can’t wait to get the catty and give it an up-close look. I have several items on my “want” list. Enjoy your day!

  7. Thank you for making me slow down and look at each little beauty found on the catalog’s cover! You pointed out one item that I totally missed – that sweet copper edged ribbon! Love it! Thanks, Brian!

    • That makes me happy, Elisha! There are lots of fun things on the cover, and it was fun for me to zero in on the colors showcased by focusing on the products that are pictured (and what colors they are offered in). πŸ™‚

    • So – I took a second look – I think the Granny Apple card base is embossed with the Subtle embossing folder! Be still my heart!

  8. I love the new catalog. And I cannot wait to place my order. But what I really miss is the stampin Up supplies list where they told you what items and what pages were used to make each items shown on the pages. I would like to purchase some of these items but have a difficult time trying to locate them in the catalog.

    • Thanks for the comments, Sandi! I will pass along this information to Stampin’ Up! I had to call in to identify one of the items on one of the projects, so I know they have the information. Thanks!

  9. Loved your take on the catty cover. I think the item I like most is one you didn’t mentioned. The Delightfully Detailed Lasercut Specialty paper in the background that has been inked up for the background. At least, that is what it looks like to me. Thank you!

  10. Brian! This post is one of my “top 5 favorite Stamp With Brian posts of all time!” I love, love, love all the details. Thank you for doing what you do with such excellence. I can’t wait to see this catalog!

    • Wow! Thanks so much, Barbara! I’m glad you like it – as I started to make my way around the catalog cover, I figured others might like it, too. <3

  11. This is just such a clever way to share the catalog when you can’t share the catalog!

  12. Hi Brian, it’s a beauty, for sure! I’ve already picked out the Label Punch Box as well, as a birthday gift for my niece! πŸ™‚

  13. Brilliant, Brian! As much as I’ve looked at this cover, I have never really slowed down to study just what exactly that beautiful cover was comprised of. It’s great to take this stroll, how fun!
