A Note for You for GDP139

I am convinced that Lemon Lime Twist looks great with ANY color – sometimes it clashes so much that it looks great. Brilliant! This week’s Global Design Project challenge asks us to make a “just a note to say…” card for any occasion. It can be a birthday, a thank you or a casual hello. I paired Lemon Lime Twist with Balmy Blue (a new light blue in the 2018 Annual Catalog) for this fun note card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:GDPD139Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Sheet Music. The Sheet Music background stamp create a gorgeous background for a vintage or modern look – it all depends on what you surround it with and how you present it. The song depicted on this sheet music is Für Elise. It’s a very familiar song to anyone who’s ever taken piano lessons (or known anyone who plays piano). If you are curious, you can hear it here. When you are done, you can also watch 5,000 videos of children and adults who can also play this Beethoven song. Here’s a look at the Sheet Music background stamp: Sheet Music, Stampin' Up!, 143970I’ve had this stamp for a while, but this is the first time I’ve inked it up (I’m glad I did!). With all the sheet music Designer Series Paper in last year’s Holiday Catalog, I guess I ignored this beauty. Now’s a good time to revisit it – it’s carrying into the 2018 Annual Catalog, too!
  • Very Punny! What better way to send a friendly note than with a silly pun? I know you’ve already connected the dots here (you’re smart), but the “note for you” sentiment from the Wood Words stamp set works perfectly with the music notes on the background stamp – don’t you think? Instead of just stamping the Sheet Music stamp in the background, though, I used my Stamp-a-Ma-Jig to line up the music from various directions (they all meet below the “a note for you” panel. This gives you a better idea of how the music is lined up to create a pattern in the background:Sheet Music, Wood Words, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, GDP139
  • Balmy Blue. As I mentioned earlier, Lemon Lime Twist looks great with any color – it’s particularly wonderful with a light blue. For this card, I have paired Lemon Lime Twist with Balmy Blue – a new color in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Color Collection. 1. I never thought of using a background stamp at an angle! Brilliant. great color combo–great pun–great fast and easy card. Thanks for sharing!

    • 🙂 Thanks, Annie! I started with a full panel of sheet music but thought it would be fun to angle it in multiple ways. Glad I played around with it and glad you like it. <3

  2. I agree on the color combo! Love! And the sheet music tilted is an awesome move.

  3. Great card and a great stamp for our musical friends! I remember learning this song. I took piano lessons from the nuns and had to go to the convent for them each week. I’ll never forget the first time I saw a nun in a house dress and curlers…as a seven year old, who knew that they didn’t wear their habit 24/7??? 🙂

  4. Fresh and modern color mix! Love the play of the sentiment and sheet music!

    • Thanks, Mary! I just had to go with the pun. I love that you say I’ve made something “fresh and modern” – that was my goal here.

  5. I had to smile when I saw what you had done with the sheet music stamp. So clever. Stamping it in different directions definitely gives the card added interest and I dare say, not many of us would have thought of doing it. Yes, the Lemon Lime and the new Balmy Blue are a great pairing. Great card. Enjoy your day!

  6. Brian, do you remember when we all went ughhh when we first saw Lemon Lime Twist. Then we all found out what an awesome color it is and started saying how we couldn’t bear to think about it going away. This card proves it needs a permanent home in the Brights. Now about this card, it’s adorable! It’s clean and simple and helped you nail yet another challenge. About the song what I remember is my piano teacher saying how I needed to cut my nails because they clicked on the keys when I played it, lol.

    • 🙂 Thanks for your comments, Robbye! Lemon Lime Twist is so different that it’s wonderful! I think I’m also in love with Granny Apple Green, so there’s that. <3 How funny about your nails clicking - I never had that problem.

  7. Yep LLT plays well with others for sure! Love the background notes!

  8. Delightful blogging this morning !! Love these colors …love your pun and Love LOVE Fur Elise !! Have this stamp and love it too !!
I am so impressed with how all the colors are blending so well in our new color REVAMP !!
    Great card !

  9. Perfect way to send a note, as well as perfect gift to make a set of note cards. Love the color combo and the way you position the matting is so fun!

  10. Beautiful card and color combo. Very clever use of sentiment there….such a smartie!

  11. Beautiful card Brian! and I love the color combination, although I still avoid Lemon Lime Twist unless paired with something that overpowers it. Thanks for the Fur Elise link. I play piano and 3 other instruments as well and don’t remember ever hearing that in all my years of music!

  12. Love this one…. Might have to break my DSP ban….My Mom made me take piano lessons…. Which I secretly liked… But when I did not want to practice anymore … I played my minor scales til she told me to stop!!

    • Not a stitch of DSP on this card, Toni. Still…you should break your ban on DSP. Hurry and use all the DSP you have so you can buy more – and lots of it. 🙂 I took piano and voice growing up – practicing was never fun.

  13. Well, that’s just too punny! Love the way you used the background stamp, and I really love this color combo! Fantastic as always, Brian:)

  14. Your Stamp-a-ma-jig got a work-out with a stunning effect. Love your handmade DSP and the angles are fabulous. The card is still clean and simple, but beautiful.
