Handwritten for CTS273

I love Stampin’ Up!’s Designer Series Papers and am always inspired to try new color combinations when I see how wonderful they look together in our papers. Today’s card for CAS(E) This Sketch has no Designer Series Paper, but the color is inspired by a beautiful paper. The sketch for this card is this week’s layout at CAS(E) This Sketch. Here’s my card:

CTS273Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Handwritten. This card started with the new Handwritten background stamp. I love these fonts and the wonderful mix of words in this stamp – many sentiments in many languages. Here’s a look at the Handwritten stamp: Handwritten, Stampin' Up!, 146524I paired the swirly sentiments in the Handwritten stamp with the bold, print font from Wood Words. Quick tip: When I combine fonts, I make sure they are starkly different from one another so that the style difference is obviously intentional. While the Wood Words stamp set and coordinating dies are carrying forward into the new catalog, the bundled pricing goes away on May 31 – if you want it (and I know you do), get it now! • Coloring Technique. It’s a technique as old as time (or as old as markers and stamps). To create this unique combination of colors on this card, I simply colored stripes onto the Handwritten background stamp with Stampin’ Write Markers (Tranquil Tide, Mint Macaron and Pacific Point), gave the stamp a big huff and then stamped it down. Here’s a closer look at the effect of coloring directly on the stamp:Handwritten, Wood Words, Stampin' Up!, CTS273
  • A Unique Color Combination. I often turn to Designer Series Paper for great color inspiration. The unique color combination on this card is inspired by one of the pages from the Garden Impressions 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper. Can you find the page?Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Mint Macaron, Tranquil Tide, Pacific Point(It’s the second page on the bottom row). This mix of greens and bright blue is mesmerizing to me. While this page features Shaded Spruce, Soft Sea Foam and Pacific Point, the mix of shade inspired me to create a similar combination for my project. 1. I love the simplicity of the sketch and your translation into a clean and simple card. The handwritten background looks fabulous.

  2. Great card, Brian. Coloring the stamp with markers to get the colors you wanted is very clever and it is a wonderful substitute for DSP. Love the sentiment on that diecut banner. Enjoy your day!

  3. Great idea for the background stamp and nice color combo, too!

  4. Okay….this is something else I have not noticed in the new “WISH BOOK ……>>> that handwritten stamp !
Cute card and I like your colors ! I like that Garden Impressions DSP !!

  5. Hi Brian:
Just a gorgeous color combination for sure! I love blues and greens together and it’s so nice that you framed the light with the darker card stock. Just beautiful. Glad to be back to normal. Will catch up on your blogs soon. I hope your Mom had a fabulous Mother’s Day.

    • Thanks, Grace! Welcome back! Can’t wait for you to get caught up. Mom was visiting my brother for Mother’s Day, so we are celebrating with her when she comes to visit in June. <3

  6. As always, great card. I love, love, love the color combination. Oh and now something else on the wish list – gotta get that Handwritten stamp . (Do you have a preference for Wood Mount or Clear Mount for those really big stamps?)

    • Thanks, Dianne! I have always purchased the wood mount sets for the background stamps, but I’ve changed my mind with the stamp placement tools out there now. This technique was made easier to stamp because it was clear mount.

  7. Love that color combination Brian!
