Accented Blooms with a Pop of Poppy

Today I’m sharing a simple card that packs a lot of punch. My first introduction to Accented Blooms generated a big “Yay!” from me – I love any stamp set that incorporates a punch we already love. This new set includes three shapes that coordinate with the Tailored Tag punch (from the Truly Tailored suite in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Occasions Catalog). Here’s my card:

Not only am I the host of this week’s CASE the Designer Challenge, but we are also selecting one person this week to be a guest designer for the next six months. Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Accented Blooms. I could have spent time coloring in the beautiful flowers that frame this Tailored Tag shape, but I really wanted the sentiment, itself, to shine. I stamped the image on Crumb Cake with Whisper White Craft Ink and then heat embossed it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I heat embossed the sentiment (from the carrying-forward Lots of Happy Card Kit) on Poppy Parade cardstock, too, so it really stands out against the Crumb Cake backdrop. Simple and easy. I know I’ll be coloring these flowers soon, but I really love the simplicity of the outline. Here’s a look at the Accented Blooms stamp set:Accented Blooms, Stampin' Up!, 146681
  • Tailored Tag. I’ve always love the shape of the Tailored Tag punch – it’s a hybrid of a diamond and a rectangle (or somewhere in between). It’s a little fancy but also very straightforward and clean. We loved how masculine it was with the Truly Tailored suite – and we are going to LOVE playing with it in this very feminine set. Accented Blooms, Lots of Happy Card Kit, Tailored Tag punch, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingThe Lots of Happy Card Kit also includes some projects with this shape, so I knew this sentiment would work perfectly inside this floral-encircled frame. The punch is slightly smaller than the frame, so I glued it down to nestle inside the borders.
  • Join the Poppy Parade. I know what you’re saying – “I don’t need to get Poppy Parade because I already have Melon Mambo and will be getting Lovely Lipstick.” Right? Well, you are wrong. I want to show you how different each of these bright pinks is from one another. Here’s a comparison of Melon Mambo, Lovely Lipstick and Poppy Parade: Stampin' Up! Color Comparisons: Melon Mambo, Lovely Lipstick, Poppy ParadeI LOVE the brightness of Poppy Parade – it has more orange than the other two colors but still holds its own as a bright pink. I really wanted Poppy Parade to shine in my card, so I only added Crumb Cake and Whisper White.

  1. Lovely! And you are so right about Poppy Parade. I kicked myself often when I passed on it as an In-color. Also Brian, you really have the Crumb Cake kavorka! It’s the perfect bridesmaid…looks great, but lets the other color shine. And gets the job done right!

    • Ha! Thanks, Annie! I’ve been reaching for Crumb Cake a lot lately because it lets the other colors shine. I wasn’t around for Poppy Parade the first time, but I think I’m really going to like it. <3 Thanks!

  2. Love this card, Brian!! 🙂

  3. I love this stamp with the white embossing on the crumb cake. It really makes a beautiful card. The poppy parade may become my favorite red. I wasn’t around for its first appearance. Great job! Have a wonderful day!

    • Thanks, HJ! This is my first time with Poppy Parade, too (it was a couple of months away from retirement when I joined). I can see why it was so popular! Appreciate your kind words.

  4. The white embossing on Crumb Cake is fabulous and the burst of Poppy takes it over the top!

  5. Love the heat embossing with Craft ink. And yes, Poppy Parade is not at all redundant. Love it!

  6. Brian, I can always count on you for a clean and beautiful card. Thanks for staying true to yourself! This is a really pretty card and I love seeing the Poppy next to the other pinks as I wasn’t sure how different it would be. Lovely!

  7. Great card with the new blooms set and love the pop of the punch. Love Poppy Parade, too!

  8. THUD! I love the poppy with the crumb cake and a white!!!

  9. I also wasn’t around for Poppy Parade the first time, however; it’s RED and that speaks for itself! ?. This card is wonderful!

  10. Great card Brian I love the embossing. I always really appreciate when you help to advise us on color.

  12. WOW! What a Poppy Parade Punch!

  13. ooo-la-la! love this new color, and this card!

  14. I can see why Poppy Parade is going to be “Pop”ular for sure! What a fabulous color it is! I can see my “wish” list getting longer every day and every time I look through the new catalog. Talk later – I’m going to run and get me some lottery tickets so I can write you and say “just order me one of everything Brian”! LOL Seriously, it’s going to be difficult choosing between all the new colors in the color lineup, the fabulous new stamp sets and oh those gorgeous ribbons. Sigh, sigh! Needless to say, I loved your card for today.

  15. I love this beautiful color combo! The white is fabulous on the crumb cake, and the poppy parade really…well..pops! Love!

  16. BEAUTIFUL Brian! Love that the Crumb Cake makes Poppy Parade shine like it does 🙂 You’re a rock-star!

  17. Chris R. from Iowa

Gorgeous. I love crumb cake and this is a twist in the pairing and it works so well. Gotta love that stamp set too. Too hot to do much right now. Maybe I need to go play with some colors. I keep forgetting about using the white with the crumb cake too. Just a lot on my little pea brain I guess. I gotta get involved with challenges and stuff like that – always sounds like so much fun!

    • Thanks so much, Chris! There are so many great color combinations to play with – even if you create every single day, you won’t exhaust all of the options. <3

  18. Poppy parade a pink? Lol. Agree to disagree. (Totally a red ?) STUNNING STUNNING card.

    • I don’t know nothin’ about no colors. You may be right, Petra, but Poppy Parade pink sounds cuter than Poppy Parade red. Thanks for your comments – glad you like the card. <3
