Springtime Impressions for GDP141

As soon as my Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies arrived, I had to cut out this gorgeous butterfly! These Thinlits are part of the Garden Impressions Suite in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog and are a must-have product. Here’s my card for this week’s Global Design Project Color Challenge:

Big Wishes, Touches of Texture, Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card (the challenge goes live at 7am EST):Stampin' Up! Color Inspiration: Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Rich RazzleberryTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Garden Impressions. The Garden Impressions Suite features some really beautiful products with beautiful images, colors and textures. If you’d like to check out all of the products in this suite, you can click here:Garden Impressions Suite 11010 The butterfly die I used from the Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies which are part of the Abstract Impressions Bundle. I can’t tell you how much I love this stamp set – and the coordinating dies are amazing! If they aren’t on your wishlist, then take another look because they deserve to be there. Here’s a look at this bundle:Abstract Impressions Bundle, Stampin' Up! 148348
  • Just a Touch. I used the large paint splatter image from Touches of Texture to ink these three bright colors behind the butterfly – a splatter of Pumpkin Pie, a splatter of Rich Razzleberry and a (stamped-off-twice) splatter or Real Red. There’s just a touch of these colors to add texture behind the beautiful butterfly. Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingWhy did I stamp off the Real Red twice before stamping on this paper? There’s no better way to look like a violent murder happened than to splatter red all over the page. EVEN if red is the theme, it can look like something you’d see on CSI or Dexter.
  • Mini Dimensional Placement. I cropped my butterfly from Shimmery White so it would be sturdy enough to pop up on the front of the card. That didn’t feel like a challenge until it was time to pop it up. If I just added dimensionals to the center of the butterfly, it would teeter-totter back and forth. I used one Mini Stampin’ Dimensional on the body of the butterfly and then trimmings from the sides of the Mini Dimensionals. Here’s how they were positioned on the back of my butterfly:  Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

Stamp Sets: Big Wishes, Touches of Texture  Papers: Smoky Slate, Shimmery White  Inks: Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Rich Razzleberry, Jet Black Stazon  Accessories: Springtime Impressions Thinlits Dies, Mini Stampin’ Dimensionals, Stampin’ Dimensionals

I hope you’ll pop over to the Global Design Project to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Simply gorgeous.
I love how you’ve used the smoky slate as a mat as well as using it for the base card. A different colour mat would’ve been too much and taken away the beauty of the butterfly.
    Another masterpiece Brian ?

  2. A beautiful explosion of color!

  3. Your card is GORGEOUS! I love the Abstract Impressions bundle! I can see lots of greats cards coming from that.

  4. absolute perfection. i love the white on white and beautiful sentiment!

  5. Love the spatters behind the pretty butterfly with the sweet sentiment. Just beautiful. Have a great day!

  7. so pretty Brian. thanks for the dimentional tip too!!!

  8. Whew ! So glad you stamped off that Real Red ! That poor butterfly would have been a suspect in a crime scene !
I have this die set and have not used them yet . Your card is a great one to CASE to get started.
It is a Happy Monday card !!

  9. I love the spatter behind the butterfly! Beautiful card!

  10. Oh Brian – this card is absolutely breathtaking. Now I will have to take another look at the Abstract Impressions bundle. It is already on my order #4 list but I may have to move it to my #2 list as I don’t think I can wait that long to get my hands on it! Can you give a bit more of a description of the shimmery white cardstock? Does it sparkle a bit or does it just have a sheen to it or what? Thanks in advance. This card is definitely classy. I love it!

    • Thanks, Grace! It’s a really great bundle! Perfect for this time of year, so I say move it from #4 to #2. 🙂 The Shimmery White cardstock has a “delicate shimmer on both sides” according to the online store. It has specks of shine that are part of the smooth paper. It’s hard to capture in a photograph – I’ll send you a piece so you can take a look for yourself. <3

  11. Brian I just love how you combine the different stamp sets to make a great card. This one is simplistic and fun. Thank you!

  12. Beautiful Brian. I love the sentiment with the butterfly. Lovely combination.

  13. ARRGGGHHHH!!! Brian, WHY do you make me buy all this stuff????!!!!!

  14. Brian, this is a lovely card! I really like the way you handled the color challenge in an elegant, understated way. Adding your tip about how to stabilize the butterfly is helpful, too!

  15. Brian, this card is awesome! I love the butterfly, but for me it is the splatters behind that really make it special. I love the subtle colours with the big impact.
I’m glad to hear no butterflies were harmed to get the real (blood) red colour for this card!!!!!

    • Thank you, Connie! I am happy with how soft these bright colors look (even though all three of them are now Regals) behind the butterfly. No blood. 🙂
