Love You to Pieces for CTS276

When I first saw Stampin’ Up!’s Puzzle Pieces Thinlits dies, an idea popped into my head. That idea has floated around in there for a while – just waiting for the right time to squeeze itself onto a card. Today’s the day! This week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge gave me the push to put that idea on paper. 🙂 I cropped puzzle pieces in Whisper White, Flirty Flamingo and Granny Apple Green to create this sweet card:

And here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card:

CTS276Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Love You to Pieces. How adorable is the Love You to Pieces Bundle? There are so many sentiments in this set that smartly coordinate with the puzzle pieces in the coordinating Puzzle Pieces Thinlits dies: “Love you to pieces,” “Let’s get together soon, “One piece at a time,” “You are my missing piece” and “Thanks for keeping me together.” I chose the sweet-and-simple “We just fit” for my card. Here’s a look at this incredible bundle:Love You to Pieces, Stampin' Up! 148396I cropped puzzle pieces with the square set of Thinlits shown in the top, right corner of the product photo. I cropped them in all three colors so that I could mix-and-match them as I pleased. What fun!
  • Faux Embossing. I love these puzzle pieces and adore the way they fit with this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge. Here’s a closer look at the front of this card (in case you can’t really see the white pieces in the card above):Love You to Pieces Bundle, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingThe Whisper White puzzle pieces serve two function on this card that add to the overall design:
    • Texture. By gluing Whisper White cutouts to a Whisper White card base, I’ve given the illusion of a page dry-embossed with puzzle pieces. It’s a fun technique to add a little texture and depth to your project.
    • Drama. The pink and green puzzle pieces really stand out in a sea of white. That’s exactly what I wanted since these are pieces that really “fit.” I was careful to position the other puzzle pieces so that they wouldn’t fit with one another as placed on the card.
  • Color Combination. I love the fresh, preppy combination of pink and green. Granny Apple Green is a brilliant, new color that needs to make its way into to your craft space. At first glance, you might say this bright green is close to Lemon Lime Twist, but it’s actually closer to Old Olive – it’s a lighter, brighter version of Old Olive (very reminiscent of Lucky Limeade). Here’s a comparison of these three greens:Stampin' Up! 1. Brian, I love this card to pieces.
I did not add this bundle to my first order but it is at the top of my first for my next one. Thanks for the inspiration.

  2. Oh Boy . . . I was not planning on owning this bundle Brian, but you have put it on my “B” list at least. OMG . . . I never read other comments before I write mine . . . just glanced u and see Michelle Gleeson said the same thing! WOW! So thanks for this inspiration.
    🙂

    • 🙂 Thanks so much, Nancy! I’m so glad you like it – the sentiments are so perfectly paired with the dies and images. That’s what sold it for me. <3

  3. Such a great idea for a card Brian and I love that new Granny Apple Green!

  4. Love this preppy, sweet card. Great way to add texture without embossing. This set has really cute sentiments like the one you used. Glad that idea spilled out today. Have a great day, Brian.

  5. Absolutely brilliant interpretation of the sketch and I’m charmed by those little puzzle pieces.

  6. What a cute card! The ultimately preppie color combination is fab.

  7. Like these colors together! Awesome job with the sketch…I would not have thought to do the white pieces…genius!

    • Thanks, Windy! I was going to make all of the pieces in colors, but I wanted the two that fit to stand out. I decided on white after I had already cut out a bunch of pieces. <3

  8. Love, love, love it Brian! The white on white puzzle pieces really do give the background a zing for sure. I wonder if you could glue a photo printed on paper to a piece of card stock and then run it through the Sizzix to be cut into puzzle pieces. My younger great nieces and nephews would love that enclosed in a card. They would have to put the pieces together to see the photo……….. what do you think?

    • You could TOTALLY to that, Grace! I would add a piece of copy paper between the photo and die to make sure you don’t scratch the photo as it runs through the Big Shot. I’ll try it soon and share the results. <3

  9. So cute and so clever !! Love the puzzle pieces used as an embossed element . This is such a different set that it is a gotta have for sure !
Thanks for the color comps on the greens !!

  10. Great interpretation of the challenge Brian! Love the color choices too. Fun card!

  11. Brilliant design! The colors are great too! Love this card.

  12. It’s a winner for sure…so different-not run of the mill!

  13. does the big puzzle piece die cut into individual pieces or as one piece; is see you used it to emboss. do you need anything extra to use it as an emboss?

    • Hey Joanna – the big square cuts into the pieces I used on this card. I cut white pieces and glued them down to give the look of textured impressions embossing (to look like it had been run through an embossing folder). You CAN just imprint the shapes on paper with an Embossing Mat (#146327) on page 130 of the catalog. Please let me know if you have questions. <3

  14. I’m in love with this bundle. It’s so unique, and fun. It was on my first order, and I’ve really enjoyed playing with it! Thanks for sharing a great idea!

  15. This is adorable! Love those fun puzzle pieces!

    • Thanks so much, Sandy! It was fun to play with them – I have lots of leftover pieces that will make their way onto another project soon, I’m sure. <3

  16. Oh my this is wonderful! Love those sweet puzzle pieces! You nailed the sketch and the colors are terrific!

  17. Great card Brian. This is such a fun set. I really like the white on white background – texture and pop for the colours!

  18. So adorable, I love it! Which when I stop to think about it is a tad odd since puzzles drive around the bend. However I can enjoy the feel of a puzzle without the frustration with this card. I love your color choices the play so well together. Great job Brian

  19. Super cute card!

  20. Such a creative take on the sketch using those puzzle pieces! I do love it to pieces!

  21. Fabulous take on the sketch, Brian!

  22. Love this interpretation of the sketch, Brian! I had this set on my B list, because I thought that the big square of puzzle pieces just embossed , I didn’t realize it cut them out. It’s at the top of my next order list!
I really love the white pieces giving the faux embossed look, with the contrast of the colored pieces as a focal point. Truly fantastic 🙂

    • Thanks so much, Nina! YES – it cuts out the puzzle. 🙂 You CAN emboss it with the embossing mat, but these cut out pieces are adorable! You’ll enjoy it! <3
