A Tropical Chic Thank You Card

Today’s card features a peek at some of my favorite items from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog – the Tropical Chic Bundle (including the Tropical Chic stamp set and Tropical Thinlits Dies) and the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. What a combination! Here’s my sweet-and-layered 4-1/4″ x 4-1/4″ card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Tropical Chic. I adore the bright, cheery colors in the Tropical Escape Suite of products – the bright greens and powerful pinks are a great combo! Since my first order arrived, I’ve been itching to use this gorgeous square of cutouts from the Tropical Thinlits Dies. I wanted to give it a different look, so I used a combination of rich and muted colors – Mossy Meadow, Crumb Cake and Soft Sea Foam. Here’s a look at this amazing new bundle: Tropical Chic Bundle, Stampin' Up! 148399Don’t just pay attention to the leaves, though – these sentiments are GORGEOUS! I isolated the “thanks” from “with much love & thanks” in the Tropical Chic stamp set and cropped it with my 1-1/2″ Circle punch: Tropical Chic Bundle, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingAll of the layers on this card are squares – here’s a list of the measurements for each, starting with the base and working our way up to the sentiment:
    • Mossy Meadow – 4-1/4″ x 8-1/2″, scored at 4-1/4″
    • Soft Sea Foam – 3-7/8″
    • Crumb Cake – 3-3/4″
    • Mossy Meadow – 3-1/8″
    • Soft Sea Foam – 3″
    • Mossy Meadow – 2-7/8″
    • Thick Whisper White – 1-1/2″ Circle punch
  • Oh, So Subtle! One of the most common questions I have received from this new catalog (and I see it asked a lot on Stampin’ Up! Facebook groups – “what does the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder look like?” The image is so small in the catalog – and the image is so…subtle…that it’s hard to tell. Here’s a look at this embossing folder: Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Stampin' Up! 143706And here’s a closeup of the impression left on the Crumb Cake panel on my card to give you a better view of the gorgeous texture that’s created by this folder:A closer look at the texture from the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impresssions Embossing Folder, Stampin' Up!, Brian King
  • Warm Colors. I wanted warm, rich colors for my card today, so I reached for Mossy Meadow. Oh, my, how I love this shade of green! I ran my Mossy Meadow cutout over different colors until I landed on the perfect accent – Soft Sea Foam. Crumb Cake allows these colors to play well together. 1. Love this card Brian! Very chic!

  2. Holy fabulous!!! Gorgeous!!

  3. Charming square shape and dashing design!

  4. I like it – good masculine card.

  5. Between the diecut leaves and the subtle EF, this card has just the right amount of texture and interest. So pretty. This color combo makes a great masculine card, but as you showed the other day, by making a quick switch of adding pink it could be a pretty feminine card. These leaves are so on trend in lots of current catalogs. Love them. Have a great weekend, Brian.

    • Thanks so much, HJ! I’m thrilled that you like it and appreciate your feedback. It was a fun set of dies to work with, and I’m happy with how it turned out. <3

  6. GREAT card, Brian! The subtle EF creates a grass cloth texture that pairs perfectly with the Tropical Escape suite – LOVE IT!!

  7. Lots of perfect squares..love the texture from both the embossing folder and the dies!

  8. I love ferns! This bundle is going to work amazingly well with all the flower stamp set I have! I especially love that there are thinlits dies to go with them. Dimension, dimension, dimension – whether prominent or to accent – these are going to end up being a “must have” for me and for many others I’m sure. Gorgeous card today Brian………….perfect for an invitation to a summer barbecue when simply replacing “thanks” with “You’re Invited”. Love it.

    • Thanks so much, Grace! These dies were super-fun to work with – you’re going to love this bundle! <3 Love the idea of using it for a barbecue invitation. 🙂

  9. I love this card! The Subtle DTIEF is perfect with the leaves. I also love the way this set of dies does not need the stamp set to create a beautiful card. They stand on their own or paired with other stamp sets (Fabulous Flamingo is one I want to pair). Thanks for sharing and giving me a great idea for my next class. I try to do 1 card that is not specifically for a women as I have 1 lone guy that comes to my class.

    • Yay! Thanks, Debbie! The dies are such a brilliant component of this bundle, but the stamp set is pretty amazing, too! I hope your customers love playing with it! <3

  10. Absolutely beautiful card Brian. You’ve been thinking of me a lot lately if your color schemes are any indication, lol. You know how much I love my neutrals and when you make cards using a pink and green palette.

  11. How beautiful! I love the square design, and that gorgeous Soft Sea Foam! I love this example of how to beautifully incorporate the subtle DTIEF. Love the great texture it adds! Fabulous card, Brian!

    • Thanks, Nina! I go through phases where I can’t stop making square cards. 🙂 It’s nice to incorporate the shape every once in a while. This embossing folder is a MUST HAVE. <3

Ahhh, I love mossy meadow and crumb cake. I love all the layers as well. I will be CASEing this with my piece from the shares if I don’t purchase the DSP. Brian, thanks for opening my mind to different ideas.

  13. Love your card. I’m thinking that Soft Sea Foam might be my favorite new color. It goes with so many other colors! Your combination is just perfect.

  14. Love all the greens that SU has provided us. This card is adorable.
