A Big Thank You for FabFriday 140

FabFriday is kicking off a new challenge today that gives us a fun mix of colors – Stampin’ Up!’s 2018-2020 In Colors. Yay! You’ve had almost two months to get them, so I hope you are are ready to play along. Lovely Lipstick, Grapefruit Grove, Pineapple Punch, Call Me Clover and Blueberry Bushel ALMOST give us a complete rainbow of colors in a variety bright, soft and rich colors. I pulled them together on a card that features one of my favorite bundles from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog. Here’s my card:

FabFri140Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • A Big Thank You. When I shared the list of my Favorite Things from Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog, I was excited to share the A Big Thank You Bundle – it’s amazing (and kinda’ hidden in the catalog). If you weren’t looking the stamp set (on page 122), you might miss it – and you might miss the amazing Thank You Thinlits Die. It’s reminiscent of the Happy Birthday Thinlits Die that was a HUGE hit last year, and this one is just as amazing. Here’s a look at this new bundle: A Big Thank You Bundle, Stampin' Up! 148404It’s a must-have bundle and perfect for a quick and simple thank you.
  • Filthy Hands. I stamped a panel of bands from the A Big Thank You stamp set on Whisper White and then trimmed it down to the size I wanted. I started at the top and worked my way down the panel, cleaning the stamp with a baby wipe after each time I stamped down. At the end, of my panel, my hands were FILTHY – looked as if I had dipped my finger tips in black ink. Here are two things I could have done differently to avoid the inky fingers:
    • I’ve always used baby wipes to clean my photopolymer stamps (and my Stampin’ Scrub to clean my red rubber stamps). I recently purchased a Simply Shammy but didn’t open it up before giving it away to a team member during a Facebook Challenge for my InKing Royalty group. Here’s a look at the Simply Shammy: Simply Shammy, Stampin' Up!, 147042I’ve since ordered another one and will enjoy using it. This reusable stamp cleaning cloth makes stamp cleaning effortless. Just add water and wipe stamps on the shammy – and it fits neatly in a stamp case.
    • I started stamping the lines at the top of my panel, which means I had to clean my stamp for EVERY line on the panel. If I had started in the middle and cleaned it for the first four colors, I could have stamped TWO lines (one above and one below) for every color after that. That would have been a smarter approach with less cleaning along the way.
  • Balancing it All. When I was done with my panel of colorful lines, I thought I would just glue down a cropped out “Thank You” and call it a day. The background was too busy for the delicate die, though, so I had to approach it differently. By adding a big, blue circle (the largest circle in the Layering Circles Framelits Dies), I was able to incorporate this sentiment into my design. I played with different colors for the circle and die until I found the combination that worked best.A Big Thank You, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, FabFri140

  1. What a labor of love for a bright, fun card. Have a great weekend Brian!

  2. Love those colorful patterns you used to create a bold background. I love my shammy, too!

  3. Oh! You are right, I think I have missed this bundle. But not for long… great card. I love the way you did the stripes.

  4. You did a great job with the background! Love the brightness of the card!

  5. Great job on the stripes, Brian. Love the large “Thank You” die. Love this colorful card. The shammy is one of the best tools ever. I keep mine in a stamp case, but occasionally I let it dry overnight, then wet it again the next day. Enjoy your day!

  6. First, I got the DSP packets in the mail just in time for my New Catalog Open House last night! My ladies love these! Thank you for all the work you put in to making those available to us! So helpful!
Secondly, I love this card, the color and the simplicity. Perfect!
Third, I gave all my customer who came last night to my open house a Shammy in a plastic stamp case and we used mine all night long. They LOVED it! I think the shammy is going to be a big it!

    • Thanks so much, Judy! I’m so glad you had all the goodies to share with your customers. What a wonderful gift for them to receive at your event! <3

  7. Hi Brian:
Whenever the new In colors become available I buy them all and then when they arrive I immediately sit down with some white card stock and stamp either flowers or balloons with all of them. SU manages to always put out in colors that coordinate so beautifully and every time I do that I get bright, fun and exciting cards. The card you made for today is such a fun example of how well those in colors coordinate with each other. I just LOVE it!

    • Thanks so much, Grace! It’s always fun to play with new colors and get a feel for how they work. I love these beautiful, bright colors and have really enjoyed working with them. <3

  8. Suzie Patt Cullen

Such a bright and cheery thank you, Brian!
    Awesome ?

  9. Gosh I thought that was DSP that I had missed – just love the background

  10. Hi Brian! I really like this! I do want to add one comment: you said we have had almost two months to get the new In Colors. As a former demo, I want to note that demos have had almost two months to get the them. However, you have many non-demo people that follow you and we have only had since June 1 to get them– not quite a month. : ) Just something to keep in mind. The Big Thank You bundle is definitely on my wish list! Thank you for another idea for using it!

    • Julie – I’m glad you like my card , and I appreciate that. I don’t mean to be crabby, but your corrective feedback is wrong. The new In Color inks have been available to all customers since May 1 as part of the Share What You Love promotion. May 1 to June 22 qualifies as almost two months in my book. You can read more about that promotion here: https://stampwithbrian.com/2018/05/01/early-release-share-what-you-love/

    • Hi Julie,
Just letting know that customers were able to purchase the InColor Bundle early in May. I hope you’ve been able to order yours because they are just gorgeous this year and so fun to play with! My favourite is Lovely Lipstick! 😉
      Louise xo

  11. I love it, those colors are amazing!

  12. You’re so clever – I never would have thought to do that with the lines in the stamp set and I also hate to admit that you’re right…because I did totally miss this stamp set!
A lot of my customers purchased the InColors as soon as they became available in May as they are just so gorgeous this year – Stampin Up sure do know how to make us happy!!
Thanks for sharing your awesomeness. xo

    • Thanks so much, my friend! I don’t know what possessed me to stamp so many of these lines, but I ended up having fun with it. <3 Always love to hear from you. Thanks!

  13. Brian and Louise,
Please accept my apologies. You are correct. I did see the In Color bundle in May, but I was only able to get one of the Share What You Love bundles at that time.
Yes, I did get to play with and order the other four In Colors ink pads and the assortment of the cardstock tonight at an open house. When I get them, may I case your card, Brian? Please? (Sitting here eating crow……)

    • Julie – thank you so much for your comments. I never intended for you to eat the crow. <3 I can tell you that you will LOVE the new colors - they are truly wonderful! <3

This card is fabulous, Brian! May I CASE it and show it to my friends? They will want to try it out for themselves, I’m sure. 😉
