Celebrate with CTS286

There are so many reasons to celebrate the ones we love – birthday, anniversaries, major accomplishments. Each has a specific “type” of card you’d send – you might add balloons or cake or flowers depending on the celebration. Today’s card for the CAS(E) This Sketch challenge gets right to the point and demands that the recipient celebrate – what a bossy sentiment! Here’s my card:

And here’s the banner for the sweet-and-simple sketch from N@ Ali that inspired my card:

CTS286Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Broadway Bound and Celebrate You. For the past week-and-a-half, I have been sharing projects with the Broadway Birthday bundle – you can see the last of these projects and links to the others here. None of these projects, though, feature the coordinating Broadway Bound Specialty Designer Series Paper. Today’s card does! This pattern of shiny, gold foil and black stripes is a perfect backdrop for my sentiment. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Broadway Bound Specialty Designer Series Paper:Broadway Bound Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, 146277The die-cut sentiment is from Celebrate You Thinlits Dies. While the dies were one of the amazing options during Sale-a-Bration (Stampin’ Up!’s annual sales event that runs from January through March), they are also available for purchase in the annual catalog. Here’s a peek at the amazing sentiments in this set of dies:Celebrate You Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, 146840
  • Gold “Dipped”. Items that are gold-dipped are very popular in high-end crafts and jewelry these days. Tassels, shells, flowers – if they are dipped in gold, then they are on-trend. My “celebrate” sentiment looks like it has been dipped in gold, but it was much easier than that. Here’s a closer look at the sentiment: Celebrate You Thinlits Dies, Stitched Labels Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingHere’s how I did it: On a piece of Basic Black Cardstock, I swiped a VersaMark ink pad and powdered it with Gold Stampin’ Emboss Powder. I heated it with my Heat Tool and then ran it through the Big Shot, cropping with the die across the gold and not-gold part of the paper. So easy! I cropped the heart with the Stitched Labels Framelits Dies from a leftover gold piece.
  • Golden Combination. It’s funny, to me, how gold and silver fall in and out of fashion. One is always in while the other one takes a back seat. Gold has been hot for a few years – and I love it most with black and white. It can be sophisticated or fun – depending on how you present it. 8. The simplicity of this card combined with the gold/black celebrate takes it to a higher level of elegant. It is a magnificent example of chic. This is one of those cards that I would frame and put on my desk to remind me that every day we can find a reason to celebrate if we just take a few seconds to think about it. Can you tell I love this one Brian?

  9. Very classy. Love the gold dipped sentiment!

  10. Beautifully done Brian. It reminds me of “Old Hollywood”, the black and gold are almost symbolic of that type of classic glamour.

  12. Golden, enough said.

  14. I LOVE the two toned sentiment on this-what drew my eye in immediately. Love the color combination too. Your framing on this card is brilliant!

  15. Thanks for the close up of the celebrate die cut. The first thing I liked about this card is how the gold and black are horizontal on the sentiment against the diagonal stripes in the background. Striking! Awesome job on the heat embossing!
