Up and Away for CTS287

I’m so excited for this week’s CAS(E) This Sketch challenge – it’s the second of several sketches I submitted to the team. I’m not quite sure what I was thinking with I created this sketch (it was hard for me to get something on paper with this sketch) – but I’m super-excited about what I made with it. I hope you’ll play along with this challenge, too, so I can see where you mind takes you. Here’s my summery-sweet card:

CTS287Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Up & Away. While there’s a coordinating Lift Me Up stamp set (that I’ve used often over the past few years), I only used the Up & Away Thinlits Dies today. I love these dies – they are a 100% must-have for anyone who likes cheery cards that celebrate or comfort. Here’s a look at these amazing dies: Up & Away Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up! 142748I used the large balloon Thinlits Die shown above in the top, left in this set of dies – it’s a gorgeous, balloon with lots of detail. While you can layer the pieces shown in the bottom, right corner above with colors behind the balloon, I used the cropped frame of the balloon to trace the outline and crop it out so that I could add a panel of this Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper behind it. Here’s a closer look:Up & Away Thinlits Dies, En Route, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS287
  • Rainbow of New Colors. Without setting out to do this, I created a rainbow with a collection of colors that are new (or returning) colors to Stampin’ Up!’s color collection this year. Highland Heather, Gorgeous Grape, Coastal Cabana, Granny Apple Green, Pineapple Punch, Mango Melody and Poppy Parade. Here’s a graphic to show the colors I used to make this balloon with thin strips of cardstock: An Awesome Rainbow with New Stampin' Up! Colors, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, CTS287Before the new colors arrived, I shared a post with several color suggestions for building a beautiful rainbow and included several samples. • Tranquil Textures. My rainbow look bold and gorgeous against this textured Balmy Blue, don’t you think? I wasn’t initially a HUGE fan of the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper, but it’s really grown on me – I especially love this textured blue that is perfect for either sea or sky. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper: Tranquil Textures Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, 146331Because the balloon got lost in the mix of patterned paper and rainbow, I filled the back of the balloon with the Tranquil Textures paper, allowing you to better see the amazing texture in the balloon. You’re welcome. <3

I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge.

  13. Hey Brian,

Terrific sketch for CAS(E) this week. Your card is amazing, so many layers upon layers of delicious texture and bold colors.

  14. It seems a little strange to say this, but what a great job you did with {your own} sketch! I’m familiar with the strange phenomenon of creating a sketch and then not knowing what to do with it(!) But your balloon floating over the rainbow is fantastic! An adventure, indeed!

  15. Brilliant choice of colors (new!) for the rainbow!!! The new colors are so yummy. I love this thinlit too!!!
