Making Every Day Bright for FabFri146

When I lay out the products and colors I want to use on a card, I generally stick with three colors. I find it easier to balance three colors than to balance, say, five. Well, that didn’t stop Mindy Backes, my awesome friend and creator of FabFriday from giving us five colors for this week’s FabFriday challenge. We have Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather, Tranquil Tide, Balmy Blue and Powder Pink. Such a fun combination that takes some creative strategy! I’ve been itching to use the cute feather in Making Every Day Bright, so…here’s my card:

  • Bundle Bonus! I love Stampin’ Up! bundles – the Making Christmas Bright bundle is super-fun and a perfect bundle for your holiday crafts. The set perfectly coordinates with the Christmas Bulb Builder Punch – here’s a look at that bundle:Making Christmas Bright Bundle, Stampin' Up! 149947I REALLY love when Stampin’ Up! gives us another stamp set that complements the bundle we have to have. 🙂 The Making Every Day Bright takes the Christmas Bulb Builder Punch and makes it an all-occasion punch. Valentine’s Day, Halloween, Easter – they are all represented here. Here’s a look at the Making Every Day Bright stamp set:Making Every Day Bright, Stampin' Up! 148813
  • One for All. Then sentiment on this (otherwise busy) card is a clean, crisp “thank you” for One for All, a versatile set in Stampin’ Up!’s 2018 Annual Catalog. Here’s a look at all of the sentiments in One for All:One for All, Stampin' Up! 146655I love the style of this sentiment’s font but knew I didn’t want to include the leafy wisps that accompany it in the stamp – I needed super-clean here – so I masked the leafy wisps with tape before stamping onto the Whisper White band. I added one leaf to the band that I punched with the Christmas Bulb Builder Punch (I snipped a little bit around the base of the feather so that it wouldn’t be so flat on the bottom):Making Every Day Bright, One for All, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, thank you card
  • Adding Color. My feathers are all stamped with black and colored with four of the colors from this FabFriday challenge – Gorgeous Grape, Highland Heather, Powder Pink and Balmy Blue. While it would be perfectly acceptable to color these feather elements with a Stampin’ Write Marker, I didn’t have to. The stamp set contains an image that stamps right over the feather – if you missed it, it’s right next to the feather in the image of the stamp set above! How fun is that?! Even though the stamp is photopolymer (you can see right through it), I used my trusty Stamp-a-Ma-Jig to line up the image over each stamped feather. The fifth color, Tranquil Tide, is in the borders and stamped sentiment.

  1. Hi Brian,
Very beautiful, especially with this combination of colors !!! I love it !!
    Have a nice day !

  2. I adore those little feathers (takes the punch to a new level) and the way you used them. Love how you can layer the color on top with the 2 step stamping!

  3. WOW, a record may have been broken for number of ink pads used for one card. Great job. Even with all the colors, it still has a clean and crisp look. Nicely done, my friend!

    • Thanks so much, Dianne! I tried to plan ahead and only stamped one of the colors at a time. Lots of squinting to find out where I needed another of the colors. <3

  4. Awesome card! You did great with these colors…I will need to think a while for this challenge.

  5. Well today’s card really ticked my fancy! I love when a stamp set has what I call fillers. Stamp the outline, stamp the filler – yeah, all done. The only time I’m sure I can come up with five colors on a card that looks great is when the new In colors arrive at my door. I always open up those new babies and just start stamping on a card base, usually with a flower stamp. Those cards always come out beautiful which just goes to show what a great job SU does of coordinating its in color sets each year. Love this card Brian.

  6. That is alot of colors but you used them beautifully Brian. Have a great weekend!

  7. I love how you created this background.

  8. OK now this is fun. I am not usually a fan of feathers – unless they are real from a hawk, cardinal or blue jay etc. I guess I just don’t understand why they are popular this past couple of years. Anyway, this is fun and I am not sure why – maybe just the colors. Have a good weekend – lots of stamping due to the rain on your part maybe?

    • Thanks so much, Chris! I’m not drawn to feathers, either, but they sure are popular. These feathers, though, are small and stubby. I think they are adorable – especially in these light colors. <3

  9. Perfect way to use all the colors without overwhelming the card! Great choice of design elements. MUST CASE! Thanks for yet another inspiring project.

  10. I love every single color and once again, you have done a superb job finding a way to combine them. Feathers were the perfect choice. I really appreciate your mentioning how the Making Every Day Bright will work so well with the bundle. Love the penguin! Great job, as always.

  11. I love this card, it is so cute and simple with the repeating image! I’ve had my eye on this set for awhile, but I think you have shot it straight to the top of my list!
