Happy Birthday with Twinkle Twinkle

Today is the last day of September. That means it’s your last chance to take advantage of three great promotions – and I don’t want you to miss out. Here’s a quick summary of each of these:

  • Brian’s Grab Bag Promotion. During the last half of September, I’ve been offering a grab bag of goodies for $75 purchases that are attached to my current host code (or added to a $150+ order of your own). That promotion ends today, and I’m excited to get these grab bags out to you. More information included at the base of this post.
  • Bonus Days Coupons. During August, you may have earned Bonus Coupons for your $50 purchases. If so, today is the last day to cash in – the coupon codes expire tomorrow, so jump on it! <3
  • Dashing Along. On Friday I shared a project with the limited-time Dashing Along Designer Series Paper, a September-only promotion for purchases over $250. If you would like to see my project and read more about this paper, click here. Today’s the last day you can earn this elegant paper.

Birthday cards should ALWAYS be festive and fun! Whether you are making a card for 4 year old or a 94 year old, birthdays are celebrations! When I sit down to make a card for a friend or family member, I try to incorporate the things that person loves most – doesn’t always have to be candles, cake or streamers. Here’s a sweet-and-simple birthday card I made with a gorgeous sentiment from Stampin’ Up!’s Special Celebrations stamp set and a fun mix of patterns and colors from Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper:

  • Fun Layers. With all the thin borders around the layers on this card, there are a total of 8 layers of cardstock on this card – and two of those layers are popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. The base of Pool Party paper with white stars and the coordinating Gray Granite stripes are from the Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper. Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Twinkle Twinkle pack of papers that helped me to build these gorgeous layers:Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, 146284The sentiment was stamped on Bermuda Bay cardstock with Whisper White Craft Ink and heat embossed with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. This cute sentiment is from Special Celebrations, a sentiment set I love – the sentiment fits perfectly inside a Pretty Label punch. • Playing with the Layers. I have really great advice for building fun layers on a card. The big secret is – play with the layers until you find something you like. This combination of papers and shapes were whittled down and rearranged many, many times until I found a combination that made me sit back and smile.  The panel of Gray Granite paper worked its way from a rectangle to a smaller rectangle and then to a square before I was content. I had fun with it and just played with the components – such fun!Special Celebrations, Twinkle Twinkle Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, birthday card
  • Color Combination. I love this combination of blues and gray – I like it far more than I thought I would when I set out to make it. Even though Bermuda Bay isn’t found in this pack of Designer Series Papers, it’s great as a pop for the sentiment and the frames of the layers. 1. I love this color scheme. Lovely. Might be using this later in Oct for a baby shower!

  2. Brian, you are definitely the king of layers. Love the different shapes, papers and colors you used. The recipient will be delighted. Enjoy your day!

  3. I just LOVE the layering and mix of simple patterns! The punch makes the sentiment look like a cloud. Cool!

    • Thanks, Mary! I’ve used this punch for a cloud before but didn’t intend it here. It’s cool, though, since it floats over a backdrop of stars. Maybe I SHOULD claim it was intentional. <3
