Snow is Glistening

Stampin’ Up! is releasing two new stamp sets, a grand set of dies, a new pack of papers and embellishments on November 1. I’m so excited for you to get your hands on these amazing, new products – and I can’t wait to see what you make with these goodies! I shared the collection of products yesterday – you can see them here. Today I’m sharing a card I’ve made with the Christmas stamp set – Snow is Glistening. While the coordinating dies are INCREDIBLE, I decided to simply feature the stamp set here. Here’s my card:

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Snow is Glistening. Snow is Glistening is the Christmas-themed stamp set in the limited-time Snowflake Showcase collection of products that Stampin’ Up! will release on November 1. Along with gorgeous sentiments, there are lots of snowflakes, including a large tree made of snowflakes. The images are quite beautiful. Here’s a look at the Snow is Glistening stamp set:Snow is Glistening, Stampin' Up!, 149742I stamped the sentiment with Whisper White Craft Ink and heat embossed it with White Stampin’ Emboss Powder. The white pops against the Tranquil Tide backdrop. The Foliage Frames Framelits Dies delivers a perfect outline for the sentiment. Here’s a closer look: Snow is Glistening, Foliage Frames, Stampin' Up!, Brian King, Christmas cardWhile I didn’t use the Snowfall Thinlits Dies on this project, I want to make sure you see them – they are incredible. • Background Pattern. At first glance, you might not see how I created the diagonal band of snowflakes in the background of this card. I created the pattern by stamping the triangular tree image multiple times on the Whisper White cardstock. I used my Stamp-a-ma-Jig (a stamp positioning tool that retired last year but that I will never give up) to line the tree image up over and over. The tree is stamped over and over with Lemon Lime Twist, so the pattern looks seamless here. To give you a better idea of how I did this, I stamped the tree with Coastal Cabana and Lemon Lime Twist:create patterns with the Christmas tree from Snow is Glistening, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingHow fun is that?! The options are endless with this pattern – I’ll definitely be playing with it more in the weeks to come.
  • Unexpected Color Combination. While green is not a creative choice for a Christmas tree image, a green flurry of snowflakes is unexpected, don’t you think? There’s something I love, though, about these lemon lime flakes. I paired these light green flakes with Tranquil Tide for a gorgeous combination of greens. I layered the base of the card with Basic Gray and Smoky Slate to give a neutral base to these greens. 1. Brian, you always amaze me with your color combinations and this card is one fabulous example of that.
And I love how you use your stamps in totally unexpected ways to create designs that are truly incredible.
I always look at your cards first before I read your post, on this one, I was trying to find the image of this long strip of snowflakes on the set, I thought you did it with the stamp with the snowflakes falling but no, you clever thing you, as I read your post and found that picture of how you created the band of snowflakes and that was simply amazing.
Thank you for showing us that we can use our stamps in other really beautiful ways to create truly awesome cards.

    • Yay! I’m so glad you like it, Maria! When I get stuck for what to make, I just play around until something strikes me. <3 Thanks for your supportive, kind comments. <3

  2. Awesome card…love the background you created and colors together!

  3. Gee Brian – I’ve been following your blog for years now and still you surprise me all the time. Your little “trick” for using the tree to create a band is one that is also used in quilting when one wants to have a multi colored band. Isn’t it amazing the way hobbies little “tricks” can be interchangeable. However, I still think you have the most amazing ability to layer cardstock. I just never know what I’m going to learn from you the next day. So much to look forward to. Fabulous card.

    • It’s all geometry – isn’t it, Grace? We’d never admit it, but we learned something in high school, right? 🙂 It IS fun that your hobbies overlap so well – we might need to set up a call for me to pick your brain on some more pattern ideas. <3

  4. I’m floored again! I stared and stared at the background to see how you did it…it’s seamless! Beautiful work! (again)!

  5. Love this mix of greens and the handsome shot of gray!

  6. Nice job with stamping the tree. I too, have kept and will keep my Stamp-A-Ma-Jig!

  7. Oh you are so clever! I love how you made that beautiful band of snowflakes!

  8. What perfect modern feeling color combination for the super fun snowflake pattern you created!!!

  9. Such a beautiful sentiment for a beautiful card.
