Happiness Surrounds with a Unique Color Inspiration

I’ve been a little under the weather since returning from Orlando last week. With chest congestion and lots of coughing, I turned to the best remedy known to man – a chai tea latte from Starbucks (I requested mine with almond milk and an extra pump of chai). Thanks to Lydia who introduced me to this spicy treat – nothing soothes a sore throat better than this mix of spices in a hot drink. Inspired by Friday’s coffee cup from Starbucks, I made this card:

Happiness Surrounds, Snowfall Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI would have never put these colors together, but I think they are pretty spectacular – and perfectly unexpected. Here’s the Starbucks cup that inspired this unique color combination:

2018 Starbucks Holiday CupTips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Snowflake Showcase. The band of snowflakes is one of many great dies in the Limited Time Snowfall Thinlits Dies. If you’ve ordered them, then you love them. If you haven’t ordered them, then you are just postponing – and I don’t want you to miss out. I don’t know how many of these dies are left, but they will be gone when they are sold out – and this is a great set of dies. Here’s a look at the Snowfall Thinlits Dies:Snowfall Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, 149692The dies coordinate with the Snow is Glistening stamp set (Christmas-themed) and Happiness Surrounds (Spring-themed). • Building the Sentiment. I stamped this sentiment (LOVE IT!) from Happiness Surrounds with Shaded Spruce ink on Thick Whisper White and cropped it with one of the dies from the must-have Stitched Labels Framelits Dies. I added a 2″ punch of Shaded Spruce behind the cropped sentiment – provides a nice border for the sentiment.Happiness Surrounds, Snowfall Thinlits Dies, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingHere’s a look at the Stitched Labels Framelits Dies – so versatile:Stitched Labels Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up!, 146828
  • Unexpected Color Combination. As I mentioned above, I would have never put these four colors together without inspiration from my Starbucks cup. Inspiration is everywhere – why not in the cup that holds your chai tea latte? If you like this odd (but beautiful) combination of Poppy Parade, Petal Pink, Cherry Cobbler and Shaded Spruce, please save this:Stampin' Up! It’s fun to find inspiration in the things around us – fashion, home decor, coffee cups. I love these colors together – even though I would have never combined them without inspiration from Starbucks. <3

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Very pretty….. well thought up! (thanks to Starbucks-LOL)

  2. I’m a die hard fan of color blocking. Your card looks fantastic and the inspiration makes it even more amazing!

    • Thanks so much, Mary! I love color blocking and have to stop myself from doing it every day – else my blog would be filled with color blocked projects. <3

  3. WOW!! It’s amazing the things where you find inspiration for your cards Brian, this color combination is one I would never have thought of but it works beautifully on your card.
Love the lacy snowflake swirl, what a gorgeous detail.
    Thank you for sharing.
    Hugs.

    • Thanks so much, Maria! I loved this combination on the cup and didn’t have to change it up very much. Glad you like it. The snowflakes are gorgeous – easy to work with. <3

  4. Love it and so spot on. What a great idea for someone who is a Starbucks drinker to put a gift card inside the too. Love taking physical items for color inspiration.
    Get better soon Brian!

  5. Brian, I love this unexpected color combination! And I hope you feel better soon!

    • Thanks so much, Karen! I was shocked at how much I liked these colors together – very unexpected – but the first thing I did was check off the Stampin’ Up! colors. 🙂

  6. Well, bless your heart ! Hope you snap back to feeling better really really soon.
Cute card and thanks to you and Lydia for something new to try at SBs !!

  7. Hi Brian, hope you feel better soon! I had to laugh because my treat in Orlando was a Chai Latte from Starbucks every morning! It is so yummy, and so is your card. Love the color combo and I’ve been having fun playing with the new Snowfall Thinlit Dies. They are a must have up here in Maine! Rest up, my friend. <3

    • Thanks so much, Dawn! It’s quite delicious and such a treat! I appreciate your comments on my card and your validation of these dies – they are wonderful (even though it’s not snowing here). <3

  8. Fun creation today with great inspiration to boot! I’m not a coffee drinker, but I DO love Starbucks chai tea too!
    Hope you feel better soon!

  9. What great inspiration and perfect card! Hope it made your throat feel better and you are on the mends! Get better soon..hugs!!!

  10. Fabulous card today (as always) Brian. How do you manage to continue to create even when you are not feeling too great? I want to mention that I just finished making the tags from the SU Christmas tag kit and they are absolutely gorgeous. The photos don’t do them any justice. I say to anyone – grab them before they are gone! You relax and get better quickly my friend. Will be thinking of you!

    • Thanks for the plug for those tags, Grace! I thought they were quite beautiful, too! If you need more, you know where to get them…
Thanks for your kind comments, too! I HAVE to create – it’s who I am. <3

  11. Well, we should alert Starbucks to add to their cup, “Surround yourself with happiness and a chai latte.” Love the card!

  12. As always, I love your card, especially the Stitched Labels Framelits and color blocking. I, too, love Starbucks chai tea latte, but IMHO, Panera is even better. However, I haven’t ever asked Starbucks for an extra shot of chai – hmmm . . . I’m going to have to try that! If you ever want a yummy chai recipe to make yourself, just ask, and I’ll send you the best chai tea latte recipe, ever!

  13. Beautifully done Brian

  14. love the card and the inspiration Brian. I’ve also been under the weather since Orlando. Can’t seem to shake this one. Hope you are feeling better.

  15. I hope you are feeling better! There’s nothing better than a good Starbucks Chai Tea! And your card is wonderful! Your colors with the pop of white are stupendous!

    • Thanks so much, my friend! I’m feeling better and getting around. It never knocked me out – just kept me from sleeping last week. <3 Glad you like these colors. <3

  16. Love the colours you chose, Brian. Very effective with the colour blocking! I came home from Orlando with a very similar bug , as did many of the group I was with. Hope you feel better soon.

    • I’m already feeling better, Heather – thanks! I start coughing most just before bedtime. I’ll have this beat soon. Hope you are recovered. <3 Glad you like these colors, too. <3

  17. I love that you can find inspiration anywhere, and they really have some pretty Starbucks cups this year. You made such a beautiful card!
I also love chai tea lattes, but I’ve never tried them with almond milk. I have subbed it in a Frappuccino and it makes it super creamy so I think I will give it a try!

  18. I love my Chai from Starbucks! It’s mostly what I drink all year! Your card is amazing! Very spot on! I sure hope you feel better my friend.
