Life’s Too Short to Say No to Cake

When my local stamp club met on Sunday, we made a super-sweet, oh-so-soft birthday card – and I’m excited to share it with you today. My card features two must-have bundles from Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Occasions Catalog – and I couldn’t be happier with how beautifully they work together. Here’s my card:

Amazing Life Bundle, Piece of Cake Bundle, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI’m holding this card because it doesn’t open at the bottom like most of my cards do. Instead, the sentiment and cake (framed with a gray border) are attached to a shortened card base.

Here’s a side view of this sweet card:

The fun sentiment and showcase frame on my card are pulled right from the Amazing Life Bundle. The bundle features the must-have Stitched Rectangle Framelits Dies – 13 rectangles with stitching on the inside and outside of each rectangle shape. I LOVE these and use them more than I could have ever imagined. I can create frames and gorgeous layers on my cards for days with these dies.

Here’s a look at the Amazing Life Bundle:

The Piece of Cake Bundle gives us an incredible mix of sentiments and a variety of cakes for our projects. I love that the cake and pedestal are both represented in the punch (and I love that it’s a punch!). This set is perfect for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries or any celebration where you might have cake.

Here’s a look at the Piece of Cake Bundle:

Piece of Cake Bundle, Stampin' Up! 150579I stamped the cake and pedestal with Memento Tuxedo Black ink and punched them with the Cake Builder Punch. I colored the cake with the Light and Dark Flirty Flamingo Stampin’ Blends and filled in the small, dotted trim with the Light Lovely Lipstick Stampin’ Blend. The pedestal is colored with the Light and Dark Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends. I decided to leave the flowers white and added a sweet Pearl Basic Jewel before popping the cake up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. Here’s a closer look:

The sweet piece of All My Love Designer Series Paper on the inside of this card gives the front panel a beautiful backdrop when the card is closed and a sweet place for you to write your sentiment on the inside. The paper is so soft that you can just write your thoughts on top. Here’s a look at the inside of the card:

All My Love Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 148576The Flirty Flamingo base of my card is 5-1/2″ x 6″ (scored at 4-1/4″). I added the framed base to short panel for a fun fold.

Bundles: Amazing Life, Piece of Cake  Stamp Sets: Amazing Life, Piece of Cake  Papers: All My Love Designer Series Paper, Flirty Flamingo, Smoky Slate, Thick Whisper White  Inks:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Stampin’ Blends (Flirty Flamingo, Smoky Slate, Lovely Lipstick)  Accessories: Cake Builder Punch, Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies, Pearl Basic Jewels, Stampin’ Dimensionals

How fun is that? My club members really had fun with this card – and I’ll share a picture of the fun we had later in the week.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. I love your card! And apparently great minds and all that…I mixed the two sets and have a similar card from my club Sunday. I think it posts tomorrow:)

  2. Love the little off set piece on the front. And two of my favorite bundles as well! But, the color combo is probably my favorite part of this darling card.

    • Thanks so much, Dianne! I love these bundles, too! I didn’t set out to combine the two, but they worked so well together. Glad you like these colors. ♥

  3. Love, love the white flowers and pop of the pearls.

  4. WOW Brian! I love the design of this card. How neat to realize that the DSP can be used beautifully on the INSIDE of a card as well as the outside. I have GOT to try this. Maybe it will actually get to to cut into my DSP. I tend to hoard it because it’s all so beautiful!

    • I hold on to DSP for the right use, too – I use it a lot, but I am also guilty of holding on to the pieces I love most. I’m getting better at it, though. 🙂 Thanks, Grace!

  5. Stop the presses!! I have to make this card! Love it – thanks for the deets! I bet your stamp club members loved it too! Thank you, Brian!!

  6. Brian, love the back-drop of DSP, that will get me using more of my DSP!

  7. Loving it my , friend, love those colors too,♥️♥️♥️

  9. Love this sweet card, Brian, with the offset front design. Any recipient would love it. I’m sure your stamp group had a great time making it. Enjoy your day!

  10. Sweet! Love the color combo as well as the fun fold. The pearls are a fun touch too.

    • Thanks, Chris! In my “first draft” I colored the flowers Lovely Lipstick. Decided that was too much pink and that the flowers would look better white. Glad you like it. ♥

  11. Adorable detail on the cake and love the pink and gray!
