Pillow Box with Grapefruit Grove Foil Sheets & More

On Sunday I shared some fun Pillow Boxes I made with the Kraft Pillow Boxes and Lovely Lipstick Foil Sheets. If you missed that post, you can CLICK HERE to read more. Because I received so many requests for dimensions on my projects, I thought I’d make another (this time with the Grapefruit Grove Foil Sheets) and share a little more about the treats I shared on Sunday. What fun!

Let’s start with the birthday-themed treat box I created:

Share What You Love Pillow Box, Lots of Happy, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingJust look at that shine on the Grapefruit Grove Foil! I love it! While the base of the foil is Grapefruit Grove (and pairs beautifully with Grapefruit Grove paper), the foil picks up so many other colors.

Not only are these pillow boxes easy to make (the Kraft Pillow Box is already done for us), but they are really easy and fun to decorate. I’m going to share some measurements and tips for making them and give products used for this one and each one I shared on Sunday.

Layer Measurements

I used the pillow boxes in the Sale-a-Bration catalog as a guide for my project. While I might not have achieved the exact measurements of those projects, I’m happy with the way these turned out. I’m going to share some of the basic measurements and some tips for assembling these boxes.

Common Elements. All of these pillow boxes are adorned with three common elements – here are the measurements for each:

  • Foil Base. The decorations on each of these pillow boxes starts with a foil sheet base that measures 2-1/4″ x 3-1/2″ and offers a little shine under each banner. Here’s a look at the Grapefruit Grove & Lovely Lipstick Foil Sheets, one of the Sale-a-Bration options with a $50 purchase: Grapefruit Grove & Lovely Lipstick Foil Sheets, Stampin' Up!, 149712
  • Banner. The banners of Designer Series Paper on each of these boxes are 2″ wide and 4-1/2″ long. Each banner is slipped into the Banner Triple Punch to create the banner end. The banner overlaps the top of the foil layer just a tad.Banner Triple Punch, Stampin' Up! 138292
  • Thick Whisper White Stitched Rectangle. I love my Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies. That’s why I chose to use the smallest of the dies (2-3/8″ x 1″) for the base of each sentiment. If you don’t already have these, please add them to your wish list now:Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up!, 148551

Tips for Assembling the Pillow Box

  • Assembling the box. The ends of each pillow box have two pieces that fold in on the ends. One is a solid flap and one has a notch (see picture below). Before you attach elements to the pillow box, fold the box ends in and lightly pinch the inverted curves along the end. It will be easier to fold without all the accessories. Also, you’ll want to glue everything to the end that doesn’t have the notches – the notched end folds in first, followed by the solid end.Kraft Pillow Boxes, Stampin' Up!, 147018
  • Applying the Tear and Tape. When the box is assembled on the ends, the core of the box will be curved. Rather than glue down the entire banner, I ran small strips of Tear and Tape down the middle of the foil panel and attached that to the Kraft Pillow Box, allowing some give for the rest of the attached items. Tear and Tape, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingFriendly tip: Not that I learned this from experience or anything, but…before you can attach the panel to the pillow box, you have to remove the backing from the Tear and Tape. If you don’t, you’ll find that it just won’t stick…

While each of the pillow boxes I’ve created a similar, each has its own personality. Below are the products I used on each one:

    Lovely, Tfs ♥️
    Thank you for sharing
    Hugs Frenchie ♥️

  3. Did I read that the foil papers are low quantity or out of stock? Maybe I am thinking of something else. Whatever, I will get some if and when I can! But, they sure add some fun bling to your treat holders. I have been working on the PP ones and having fun decorating them just with mostly the contents of the kit. Thanks for reminding me of the stamp “Sending lots and lots of Happy” as I need to pull that out and use it more frequently or at least in this year at least! I think I need to get some of the polka dot ones to have on hand. So much easier that die cutting and putting them together. All of them are so fun and so well done. Can’t pick a favorite right now.

    • Hey Chris! Yes, the foil sheets are running out – I guess they were more popular than anyone expected. They are SO WONDERFUL in person – no photo can capture how awesome they are. ♥
