Adventure Awaits for CTS311

Fun day today! CAS(E) This Sketch is kicking off a new sketch challenge – and this is another sketch I created. A simple square in the center of the card with a sentiment along the bottom right. I had no idea what I’d create with this sketch, but I knew I’d reach for some great Designer Series Paper as an inspiration. Here’s my Adventure Awaits card for this week’s challenge:

Classic Garage Designer Series Paper, Garage Gears Thinlits, En Route, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingHow fun would this card be for a friend who’s imparting on a new life adventure?! Adventures could include college, new job, new family or … wait for it … a road trip. Here’s the banner for the challenge that inspired my card (this challenge goes live at 10AM EST):

CTS311Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Classic Garage. While the Classic Garage suite of products appears to embody masculinity, remember that (1) many women also enjoy cars and like to work on them and (2) everyone loves to take a road trip…everyone. Cards of any type can be made with the colors and patterns in the Classic Garage 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper, and the images/sentiments in the set can be used for more than just “the man in your life.” Here’s a look at the colors and patterns in the Classic Garage 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper:Classic Garage 6 x 6 Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up! 148482Here’s a look at the super-fun Geared Up Garage Bundle (even if you don’t love the tool box or oil can, the gears and dies and frames are incredible so I’m going to need you to get them):Geared Up Garage Bundle, Stampin' Up! 150610To see all of the products in the Classic Garage Suite, click on the image below:Classic Garage Suite, Stampin' Up! 2019 Occasions Catalog, 11028
  • Add a Little Action. A square can feel so “solid” – no movement and no depth. When you add a popped-up card that’s shooting off the side of the square and coming in your direction, that background takes on new life. Here’s a closer look:Classic Garage Designer Series Paper, Garage Gears Thinlits, En Route, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingWhile you could heat emboss this card with White Embossing Powder on Basic Black cardstock, you don’t HAVE to do that if you have the Classic Garage 6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper – this card is part of the pattern in one of the pages. I simply cropped it out with the Garage Gears Thinlits Dies. I also cropped the car out of Basic Black cardstock and glued the two together to give it the support it needed to be popped up without getting wrinkled.
  • Color Combination. Cards that have a “masculine appeal” don’t have to be void of color. I see so many that are a mix of browns – while an all-brown card can be masculine (or even very beautiful), there’s no rule that men don’t like color. The background panel at the center of this card has some orange, red, blue and yellow. I chose to accent the yellow (Crushed Curry) by using it as the large panel in the background of the card. I hope you’ll pop over to the CAS(E) This Sketch site to see the cards by the design team members and to play along with this week’s challenge. I’d LOVE to see what you make with my simple sketch! This challenge goes live at 10:00AM EST.

Thanks for stopping by today!

  1. Nice wheels! The black car with white outline is amazing – even better that it was cropped from the DSP.

  2. The car looks like it’s going to drive right off the page and right into a great adventure! Great sketch, great card Brian. So balanced with the three blacks…two black mattes and the black car…love it!

    • I’m so happy you like it, Dawn! I cut away at that square a couple of times to get the exact size I wanted to give the perspective on the car – too big and the car just sits there, too small and the car overwhelms. Glad you like my mattes. ♥

  3. Love this card, Brian, as well as your sketch. I have been working with this bundle this week and now I have your inspiration to take it in a different directions. Yahoo!! Have a great day.

  4. Best part of this card……. heat embossing the black car with White Embossing Powder. BRILLIANT Brian. TFS!!!!

      • Thanks for reminding me that this is a sketch challenge! It’s the inspiration I needed to make cards for my husband’s two grandsons who just got straight A’s on their report cards. I’ve posted my card.

  6. Always good to have a great adventure card on hand and this is a good one.

  7. I must say I bought this set because my hubs built and drove race cars for years. I got the set with my order that arrived on Tuesday and I can’t wait to use it. The phrase I intend to use with it is “‘Tis the Season”. Why you ask? Well, the NASCAR season started 2 weeks ago with the Daytona 500 and it’s a great card to send to our racing friends. Love the way you have that car jumping off the card Brian. You are so amazing!

    • Grace, I LOVE that you are going to use “tis the season” with this set – such a clever and fun idea. It’s always fun to play around with new ideas, and I love that one. Hope you have fun with the set. ♥
