A Tea Time Thank You for GDP180

It’s time for another CASE the Designer Challenge with the Global Design Project. There are so many places to find inspiration for the projects we make – I love the opportunity to create a project that’s inspired by the art of my fellow team members on GDP. Always a joy! This week we are CASEing a design by Stesha Bloodhart, my talented friend from Wisconsin. What fun! Here’s my card for this week’s challenge:

Tea Together, Tea Time Framelits Dies, Rectangle Stitched Framelits, Stampin' Up!, Brian King

And here’s the banner for this week’s challenge, which includes Stesha’s gorgeous card, that inspired my project:GDP180When we CASE (Copy and Share Everything or Copy and Selectively Edit), we find inspiration in a project – theme, color combinations, layout, products used – and create our own project by making changes to make it our own.  When CASEing, it’s important to give credit to the original designer – it doesn’t take away from your project at all.

I was wowed by the background technique on Stesha’s card, so I recreated it on my card. I also mimicked the layout by placing my panel at a slant, placed my focal image in the bottom corner and added a small banner sentiment.

Tips, Tricks and Reminders

  • Three Teas. My little thank you card if filled to the brim with tea. I combined three tea-themed products from three current Stampin’ Up! catalogs on this card. The Tea Time Framelits Dies are one of the Sale-a-Bration items you can earn with a $100 order between now and March 31. Here’s a look at these awesome dies:Tea Time Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up! 2019 Sale-a-Bration 149697The tea pot is stamped with the image in Tea Together from Stampin’ Up!’s 2019 Occasions Catalog. The set coordinates beautifully with the dies – all of the images can be cropped with one of the dies – and there are some great sentiments in the set. Here’s a look at the Tea Together stamp set:Tea Together, Stampin' Up! 148779The tea kettle showcases strips of the colors and patterns in the Tea Room Specialty Designer Series Paper – and the striped background is from these papers, too. These pages are lightweight (almost like newspaper) – and there are 24 pages in a pack (4 each of 6 double-sided designs). Here’s a closer look at these papers:Tea Room Specialty Designer Series Paper, Stampin' Up!, 146894
  • Build a Tea Pot. My tea pot started with 3/4″ strips of various designs from the Tea Room Specialty Designer Series Paper. I glued the strips on a piece of copy paper  (I recycled an order form from my last Stampin’ Up! order). Once all the strips were glued down, I stamped the tea pot from Tea Together and then cropped it with the Tea Time Framelits Dies.Tea Together, Tea Time Framelits Dies, Rectangle Stitched Framelits, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingDid you know you can buy a single Basic Black Stampin’ Write Marker? The product code is #100082. That’s what I used to create a black border around my tea pot. It bugged me that the pattern on the tea pot bled to the edges, so I simply colored around the edges, using the stamped lines as a guide. I went around the tea pot a couple of times to ensure the coloring was completely solid:Tea Together, Tea Time Framelits Dies, Rectangle Stitched Framelits, Stampin' Up!, Brian KingI hate to point this out, but…when I cropped my tea pot, I didn’t get a perfectly centered cut. The bold black lines around the pot helped me to mask that a bit.
  • Frame It. I built my frame for this card with the Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies. Tomorrow I’m going to share another framed project and offer some tips for creating a perfect frame. Here’s a look at these must-have dies:Rectangle Stitched Framelits Dies, Stampin' Up!, 148551The panel on the inside of my frame gives a great, textured backdrop for the tea pot. To create this panel, I ran a piece of vellum cardstock through the Big Shot with the Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, another must-have product I reach for all the time:Subtle Dynamic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder, Stampin' Up! 143706It’s quite an amazing look! I was inspired to give it a try based on Stesha’s inspiration project. ♥

I’ve got to start stepping up my game to even get to the perimeter of your ballpark. I’ve been posting some of my work in the pals gallery but it pales in comparison.

    • I appreciate your kind words, Dara. Thank you so much! Glad you like my “ingenious” ideas. 🙂 No reason to compare what you make to what I make – we are different designers who’ve been doing this for different time periods. Keep doing what you’re doing! ♥
